The song was a huge hit in 1950 for Jo Stafford, who at the height of her career became . the biggest selling recording star ever. Her husband Paul Weston was a big band/orchestra leader who adapted Chopin’s Etude No.3,E-major, Op.3 along with Bob Russell’s lyrics and the rest was history ... perhaps the most romantic love song. Chopin’s song is commonly entitled ‘Tristesse’ which translates to ‘sadness’ which given the melancholy music fit at the time, until the magic of the lyrics transformed the song forevermore. I like to think that Chopin would be in approval from afar that his song has endured in such a lovely manner, don’t you agree?

Thank you so very much for sharing this song, with the lyrics, and the photo of Therese in "Carol".... This was one of my very favorite parts of the movie, when Therese leaves the party and goes out under the night-lamp, while this song is playing, "I was blessed with love to love you....'Til the stars burn out above you....." And leads to the cherished moment when she decides to go find Carol, once again.... It is my favorite movie ever, and one of my most beloved songs ever.....
