I was attacked by a chimp when I was a kid -- for "unfairness." A friend owned a "petting zoo" (this is back in the sixties). We used to visit him in the winter, when he had all his animals in cages in a big barn. He had two young chimps together in one cage. I was feeding them oranges -- but I was clearly giving more to one than the other, because he was more personable and interested in interacting with me. In a rage, the other one shot him arm through the bars and grabbed me by the hair! I let out a yell, and the owner came running. When I told him what happened he "ordered" that chimp to put his hand out and shake hands with me, LOL. He did so, but he turned his face away as he did it, as if to say "You can make me shake hands, but I still hate that son of a bitch!"

What about Travis the Chimp? He was "socialized" for 14 years, even pampered with filet mignon and lobster tail dinners before going on a rampage, mauling his owner's friend, Charla Nash. Travis lived in a large home in an upscale neighborhood in Stamford, CT with plenty of room for him to play. There's much speculation as to what prompted the ambush, like he was being served Xanax laced tea, Charla had a new hairstyle, or she was holding his favorite toy, a Tickle Me Elmo doll. I'm pro animal rights, but Travis snapped, because it was his nature all along. I'm surprised it took 14 years. Was Sandra Herold having "unnatural" relations with Travis? There was a rumor of sorts circulating around town and even Ofc. Chiafari, the responding officer who fired the 4 fatal rounds that eventually killed Travis, substantiated there was speculation in the community. Sandra was a bit "eccentric" to say the least.

If you hit a person. They’d hit you back, maybe beat you up if they’re trained. You hit A chimp, they don’t need weapons to beat you up, they’ll maim you with their hands because they can.

They do get into fights. Fighting for hierarchy or females. I haven't seen them fighting over a birthday cake. They are actually pretty good when they get their birthday cakes, but that's the thing with chimpanzees, you just never know what happens next. Alpha male Jambo the hairless chimp lost his ear. It got apparently ripped by his mother. Afterwards he scratched it that much that he lost his whole ear. One day they go crazy, other days they entertain their love interest. Chimpanzees are pretty complex animals and interesting to watch and learn about. If anybody thinks they can take one on, they're mistaken.
