This gives perspective. Hockey and hockey rivalries are meaningless. I’m an Oilers fan- for 50 years- hated the flames all my life. None of that matters in the real world. Lives were lost. Good people were lost. My heart goes out to him and his family. Sending my Flames enemies a huge hug right now because hockey just doesn’t matter today.

Growing up my family didn’t have a lot of money and we couldn’t afford Flames jerseys with numbers and letters cause it was around $100-$150 more. One Christmas I finally got my first jersey with lettering and numbers and it was a Gaudreau jersey. He meant so much to me during his time in Calgary and it hurt so much when he left. There was some anger and jade from my side, so, I just didn’t even or couldn’t even is probably better said, watch him play. All of that is irrelevant now and all I feel is the pain and loss of one of my favourite hockey players in my time. He was such a special talent and such a unique man. I think I understand him leaving, more now than ever before, it’s sad to me that I couldn’t realize it while he was still alive and maybe that realization and feeling would’ve come once he retired. Another reminder to let your anger go because life is just too short and too precious to hold onto a grudge. The way Calgary has come together to honour his life over the past day has been so wonderful to see. He had such a massive impact in Calgary and we will miss him dearly. I’m not religious but on days like these I feel I can’t help but speak to the universe in hope that it will bring guidance and serenity to the Gaudreau family. Rest in power Johnny and Matthew. ❤🕊️

Many of my son's peers were in this age group and it is being felt at such deep levels by all. Special hug for his sister who was to marry today and I hope the family can overcome this tragedy. Johnny Leaving Calgary hurt, a lot. There was a time when i even selfishly hated him for that decision. After a while the sting wore off and all i wanted was to see Gaudreau play and light the lamp again hoping he'd return to Calgary for even just one season. Now that he's gone, none of that matters, only the good and great memories will remain of this amazing man. He did so much for Calgary and from this tragedy, Calgary and Columbus fans are now united in the most painful of ways. He was the textbook underdog, "too small" "non-physical". The criticisms went on and on about his start, but he rose above all of that and made Calgary and later Columbus his home both on the ice and in every fan's heart. RIP Johnny, Number 13 should forever fly in the rafters of the Flames arena for all you've done. #13forever

JG was unique in the way the he entered the O zone. The stops, the spins, the bounces off boards/players/whatever...what he did was buy time. 1 to 3 seconds allows his line to build a play. Very easy player to build set plays around...JG does this then we do that...etc.
