listen to the song octavarium form the album octavarium. and like derpietch said, also listen to cd 2 of six degrees of inner turbulence. lot's of orchestra in those songs!

Imagine Jordan would leave DT. You can't replace him! learn all the notes (even that is pretty much impossible) but you still have no idea what effects he uses.

That's pretty much different. If you've ever seen Jordan live you'd know he improvises A LOT on every single song. He never plays it exactly to what it was on the album, which is a good thing. When you are listening to their songs on the album or live the Drummer is almost never able to improv because it messes with the beat and Rhythm way too much. Most halfway decent drummers can air drum to nearly all of the Dream Theater songs, you can't play a piano to them unless you learn them first.
