People may not realize just how hard it is to be drumming and singing that efficiently and at that level. Seated position. Having to hold the core for balance. Moving 4 appendages. Looking for air. Truly Gifted. Cheers Deen. Bravo 👏

This is great and to me they're paying homage to Steve Perry. That's Perry's phrasing, open throat technique, and vowel shaping beautifully executed.

How? This song was originally sung by Deen who is singing in this video. Journey members here are Greg Rollie, Deen & Neal.

IMO.. one of the very best Journey songs ever. Deen really is amazing. To be able to play with such ferocity and detail, yet still vocalize and not waver his tone on strenuous rolls. That's tough.

Among all the compliments to Deen's vocals (which, of course are completely warranted), everybody has overlooked the fact that Gregg Rolie is a really good sport for playing Journey songs from the Jonathan Cain era of the band.

Loved it! I’m making a comment now and it’s not a slam on Deen but a compliment to Steve Perry. This song to me shows just how good a singer Deen is- the best so far in a long list that subs for SP, but I do think that at some points Deen overextended the vocal range to almost a shout, something SP never did. SP’s vocals could hit the high notes while remaining smooth and graceful even live, which is why there will only ever be one true voice of Journey. I liked all of the singers and respect them, in fact I don’t think Augieri gets enough respect. Songs like Higher Place are very good and that CD as a whole was one of their best ever. Thank you Deen for keeping the sound alive, and continued homage to the greatest ever, Steve Perry.

I'd rather see this line up than the other. Bless Arnel, but......if Perry isn't on the vocals, then Dean is the man. You can hear/feel the passion that only SP and he has.

Deen can’t sustain an entire concert. He didn’t want to be the frontman. Journey’s song sets are hard on vocalists. Steve Perry has problems doing Mother, Father that’s why Deen did it.

I've always loved this song, and it sounds richer and better with Gregg's Hammond B3 in it. Remember seeing an interview with Jonathan saying that Journey had enough material wasn't getting played, so he didn't want to do a new album (after Eclipse), because he wanted to play those songs in concert; however, Journey didn't really do a lot of those deep cuts (aside from Escape and Frontiers tracks), so I'm glad that Neal, who wanted Journey to stuff from the first 3 albums, is able to get to the songs HE wants and also able to do them with Deen and Gregg, who are just as good as when it was Gregg and Steve on co-lead vocals.
