Hi GP, thankyou for reviewing this track. I've loved Joy Division since the late 70's. The film "Control" is a great introduction to those interested. It's incredible to think that Bernard Sumner, (bass guitar and keyboards), had written the music in one afternoon on his self built synthesizer and played it to Ian Curtis, who went home that night and returned the next day with the lyrics. They recorded it there and then, and the whole masterpiece had been completed within 24 hours. Thanks again GP, I love your show x

Your take on it is interesting. Many mental health sufferers and professionals are into joy division. The anger take you mentioned and arguments you also mentioned and the subdued, challenging take is different but makes sense when you know the back story. As an avid Joy Division fan i find that people react so differently the spectrum of feelings is very broad and inclusive. They are indeed a band that make music of resonance. I enjoyed that very much. Thank you🎅

If you don’t listen to the lyrics, you don’t know Joy Division.

Curtis's marriage was collapsing... as with "Love Will Tear Us Apart," this is about the end of the relationship. JD released only two albums: "Closer" and "Unknown Pleasures".

About how people walk away from that those who need them most. Such a beautiful yet sad song. Maybe Ian Curtis would have still been alive he had gotten the help he needed. He was really in turmoil with his mental health and his personal life. He always wore his heart on his sleeve.

Your reaction is totally in line with the story of Joy Division. Didn´t really listen to the lyrics. It's sad when young people end their lives too early and weren't listened to. Great song btw.

Lyrics are good but also the expression of them is what's most important ; You can read a lyric aloud for the first time and think it's just trash .. but then you hear them in context expressed in a song and they fit perfectly ... I'm not fond of these lyric videos because they can distract from the impact of the song when you're focusing on the font ! ha videos are best when they visualize the song ... I'm enjoying your reactions !

Hi I see that you like reacting to 80s stuff, try Sorry for Laughing by Josef K they were a Scottish band from the early 80s, it's a great song.

Hi Jay, thanks for the suggestion. I can honestly say that I've never heard of this band which makes the prospect of reacting to them all the more exciting. I'll make time for this over the next few days. 😊

You should react The Smiths for some more 80s Indie/Post Punk. Unfortunate about the lead singer of Joy Division, Ian Curtis, committing suicide but from the ashes rose the band New and they released the classic 12 inch single Blue Monday which is no doubt one of the greatest 80s synth tracks ever.
