One of the most important bands ever. Thanks! "New dawn fades" is my favourite song.

I remember when I put their album Closer (this song is not on it) on the turntable and heard these songs radiating so much pain, sadness and depression and i loved it. I was a teenager battling with a family curse of deep depression and never before heard music that so accurately described my emotions. And later listening to Curtis's great lyrics of desperation. Hard to believe they are written by such a young man. Ian Curtis died by suicide at the age of 23. But his music helped me through some dark times by resonating my feelings, making me not feel as alone.

Sounds like most of the Cure's Disintegration album can be found in Atmosphere 😂

I recommend Disorder. In their short career they had a handful of singles and only two albums and they created goth. Ian Curtis, the singer was epileptic and would have seizures on stage from the lights. They were punk shows and people thought it was an act. In the eve of their US tour he committed suicide out of fear. He never saw the influence that he had.

When you grow up and you mature and your music taste grows up to for the better great live band hookes make the music sound great

My friends and I played this song at a show once in the nineties. Granted, we lacked synthesizers, instead we used open tuned acoustic guitars to create a wall of sound and a Les Paul through a nice tube amp for the embellishments later in the song. We had a killer drummer so that part was easy. And we brought on a violinist too. But the kicker was the performance our singer pulled in the middle of the song, tearing open a bag of worms he had taped to his belly and pulling out a mangled up plastic toy doll all covered in slime. It freaked a few people out.

It's better to have a distinctive voice than a good one. This song was very important during a dark time in my life, very evocative, but not something I want to revisit very often. It's still a great song though.

Former goth kid here 😐 Their music is so repetitive, yet there are so many beautiful, shimmery synth parts. I can’t really listen to JD, unlike their contemporaries, The Smiths. RIP Ian. I’ll always wonder what they would’ve evolved into if he had lived.

I was expecting a cover of the Russ Abbott classic 80s hit. Joking. Anyone that knows that song is laughing their dicks off.
