For more reliable function, make sure the rifle will lock back when fired from the hip and other awkward positions. A firm stance can really mask a slight undergassing.

Big Wally he just means to let the rifle free recoil; slightly undergassed rifles can short stroke in free recoil the same way a pistol can malfunction when limp-wristed so if you adjust the gas to get the gun to function reliably in free recoil you get a wider margin of error

Thanks for the video John. I bought your stainless adjustable low pro gas block for my first AR build. I liked it so much that I returned two hand guards that wouldn't quite clear it. I ended up getting your rapid configuration mark 3 guard and like it even better than the gas block. I'm a mechanical design engineer with CNC equipment in my garage so I'm a bit of a hardware snob. So far your stuff impresses.

@@Everyday_Railroading just installed Aero precision atlas handguard yesterday over a JP low profile gas block and in the atlas reviews it said it never fit and needed to take some material off the gas block...as with mine...had to remove a slight bit off the top corners for it not to rub the handguard. Also had to shave a slight little bit off the 4 clamping screws.

Thank you for been informative and simple. It happened to me when I did a pistol built: totally forgot that I installed a gas block with adjustable gas screw. I didn’t have any allen wrench with me at the range but now it is set up and ready.

Really helpful, thanks. Great product as well. Worked well for years. One problem I ran into, I did all my adjustments with what turned out to be the hottest load. Which caused unreliability in some hunting ammunition. Something to keep in mind.

I think when I tune mine I'm going to get a bunch of rounds through it let the gun get dirtier than I'd normally let it get. Then get the weakest 223 I can find and make sure that locks it back. Sounds good in theory at least.

At 1:12 you mention a tension screw that is now standard on all of your gas blocks, if I understood correctly. I have a low profile gas block in stainless (I guess older model) which does not have the tension screw. I've had some issues with it backing out, or getting set in the desired position with loctite. Even had a gunsmith go over everything I did and he even pulled off to inspect and double check. Had some issues with last round lock back even with screw wide open. Went to the lightest capture spring and still no joy. Sent in silent capture to your techs and they shaved off some of the buffer and added take down hole as I'm using an older silent capture. Gun runs, but last round lock back is hit or miss - btw: also using Jp low mass bolt and carrier and jp competition 18" barrel. I don't expect there is... but it would be great to have a trade in program for old model low profile gas block and silent capture with new gen systems. Love your guys stuff, but this one particular build has me doing some head scratchin. PS - thanks for these newer vids!

does the ejection pattern play any part in your adjustment system? i have one of your low mass carriers and a syrac gen 1 gas block, from my own experience a click or 2 in either direction can make a difference in where the brass lands. also from my own experience trying to set a gas block on a freshly cleaned gun isn't optimal and needs to be fine tuned again once the gas rings have settled down and gotten dirty. thanks for the video and the great products

installed JP's JPGS-9D adjustable gas block with it's serrated adjustment screw. onto a DPMS LR 308. It is cycling correctly with 147gn NATO FMJBT LC ammo. Fulton 20" w/.0935" gas port. Bolt carrier is 18.1oz NiB-X Nickel Boron polished coating. This block's max adjustments is 25 clicks. Went to 23 clicks to achieve last round lock back, ejection angle was great @ 3 o'clock..had been @ 1 o'clock with issues. As expensive as this JP GB is it seems beyond last round lockback there should be a noticeable reduction in recoil. At 23 of 25 clicks the gas block has no noticeable reduction in recoil. Reducing recoil stress on $$ optics is a goal. Is there a way to accurately measure such recoil? Appreciate any ideas

No. You might want to adjust it slightly with different rounds to adjust performance, but the rifle will likely cycle just fine unless you're tuned for one load and more to something with way less power behind it.

BluewaterBoof No doubt, I buy $200-600 in ammo alone monthly, let alone parts like uppers, lowers, barrels, triggers and on and on for both rifles, pistols and AR pistols. I should of took up golfin’ or gamblin’.....it would’ve been a cheaper hobby haha
