A poetic cautionary ballad about the dangers of procrastination and not seizing life's opportunities...before you fully realise, time has mercilessly passed you by, and you are now in a fast-moving world that you do not understand. You limp fearfully and feebly along as professional young giants mightily stride and drive past, barely noticing you and your insignificant, ant-like status. Live well, live good, and don't neglect the one life you have only to become the trembling, pining, old, forgotten shell that Rob Halford alludes to so brilliantly in this melancholic, bittersweet song.

Another take on this song: A man who conformed to society and lived upto his supposed ideal, except it was never his own, rather one he adopted. Now, he is approaching old age and asking himself if he did the right thing, regretful and pessimistic about any possibility of self actualization. My 2 cents.

Yes, certainly drives the point home. What's really revealing to me is that the line is "You keep to the gutter, in case you fall". This poor soul is actually setting themselves up to fall into the gutter with intention. Truly sad.

Early Judas Priest was more diverse and songs like this are greatly underrated. Black Sabbath may be the granddaddy of heavy metal but Judas Priest took it to a new level with duel lead guitar. They influenced a lot of great bands that came out in the 80’s, including Metallica. So why didn’t Metallica cover Judas Priest on Garage Days revisited like they did for Black Sabbath? Judas carried the metal god torch for 40 years, no other metal band has come close to this achievement.

I don’t know what cocaine did to music but 70s music is by far the greatest decade in music history. I love salsa and rock and in both these genres the masterpieces come from the 70s.

Is called rules.... Back them nobody set rules of how a certain genre had to sound... So everyone just sort off made music around the idea of how a genre should sound.. In which if it became popular people would start copying it ... Paul Mccarthy said it on an episode in a Hulu series ... And also a song by daft punk called Giorgio at the end he says "nobody told me what to do ... There was no preconception of what to do" Which is why music from the 70s specially rock or 70s metal is by far more popular because it sounds different then 80s 90s and 00s to todays standards.... Same thing happened to disco it became popular then it morphed into synthesizer 80s synth ... Then 90s was like sped up which because techno ... Then 00s slowed it down ... It became trance .. Then EDM was formed

I have been listening to Priest since my teens. Their ballads have been some of my most favorite songs. Guess I never really listened to this song when I was younger as I didn't know till today what this song was about. Yes, the ending "I can't go on" I have heard many times from my older friends even my mom at 92 years young. Gives a whole new perspective to this song and for these guys to write and record a song of this nature is awesome! Yes, tears well up now listening to the ending!
