Seemingly rare these days a Judge who thinks things through - Judge Stevens does do his job and is enjoyable to watch - He looks at everything and considers everything and I am not able to imagine how exhausting and exasperating the daily intake of all the negativity must be - He makes it look easy.

Its because he had already been in jail for 2 years when he went to court this day, they were considering that time served. Here in Indiana 2 years served would be considered 4 years because its 2 for 1 here. Not sure what it is there but most states are like that

What is wrong with the prosecutor? a four time felon facing charges on number five and wants to offer the minimum? Not a chance. He is not learning his lessons and needs to be away from society until he does. Yes sending someone to prison needs to be for rehabilitation, but for those who refuse to rehabilitate need to be kept there to protect society. This is a classic example of that.

I wish all judges would do what Judge Stevens did here. This dirtbag did a home invasion carrying a crowbar into the home and the prosecutor is going to offer 2 years, crazy. This guy shouldn't see the sun for minimum 10 years and with his previous offenses add another 10 to that.

The prosecutor is following the mandate of his boss. The democrat elected DA is a very soft on crime. He believes that criminals are victims of society. It also appears that the democrat elected DA also doesn’t want anyone to go to prison. It isn’t the individual prosecutor.

Once again, Judge Stevens is the stand up man, who has to say "NOPE" to his prosecutor/lawyers for the defendant, the UA has not even been taken, sounds as if this fellow's history is quite lengthy and involved with multiple crimes. It seems now is the time to make this fellow understand, you either choose to live without crime, or you spend your life in prison. We shall see...

It's Texas, so I'm surprised. Here in Muchigan, that dude would be looking at some pretty hard time. We've got a 3 Strikes law here, which is actually 4 strikes because the hammer comes down on the 4th conviction, but it's been used to good effect. If the prosecutor gives this guy a sweetheart deal, I'll bet this judge rejects it. He seemed pretty adamant.

Texas does have a 3 strikes law. It enhances penalties and also allows but doesn’t require an extremely long (25-99 year) prison sentence. Low level state jail felony charges are not included.

If he’s continually breaking the terms of his probation and is constantly being rearrested, including having to complete anger management training, it’s just a matter of time before some innocent, unrelated citizen is harmed by this man. If there’s a pattern demonstrated by this man, he IS a danger to society.

Oh this guy was a very dumb criminal, got caught on some stupid charges and constantly failed predictable drug test. That said some one advised him how to gain the system. Took every course and thing offered to get parole early with working in the chapel, taking anger management groups etc. He did every thing on paper that makes him look like a good release target. Then he gets out on parole and goes back to being an idiot. I can't help but think some one in prison told him what to do and once he got out he's back to relying on his own brains.

My 90 year old mother was the victim of a home invasion- essentially the crime to which this man has admitted. Since it is his FOURTH crime, I know what I would do this him if it were up to me. He would go to prison and stay there for at least 40 years-- 10 for each crime he committed. He is clearly not going to change ever, ever, ever. He has no regard of any kind for laws, neither moral or of this country. Why waste any time on him at all, Judge Stevens... Your time is much too valuable and you are much too good a man and Judge to have to spend any more thought on this life-time felon.

That defendant probably came into court with some pie in the sky ambitions. The pie was firmly placed into his face and ground in nice and hard. No bond. Proposed offer of 2 years slapped down. That was a bad day for him. Probably a pretty good day for his multiple victims through the years.

It is too seldom that a judge does not accept plea deals. Judge Stevens looks at a case and according to the laws, makes his decision with, most importantly, the safety of the public in mind. There are sadly very many judges out there that need to study judge Stevens on how it needs to be done correctly.

According to his attorney , the defendant is a model citizen while in jail , while according to his record he's anything but when free. On balance , he should be in jail where he can flourish , all the more so as he can't seem to get his head around the concept of being on parole and the conditions that come with it.

Well jail tends to be a tad boring compared to being free. No going out with friends, family dinners, no hanging out, instead your looking at the same 4 walls day in day out. So many suddenly find time to further their education, take personal skills classes or counseling just to do something different. It's time to shutdown the revolving door...
