Fun fact; The honorable Jefferson County (Houston, TX area) Judge John B Steven, Jr has been re-elected beginning 2007 to the present day (ea 3 yr terms), to the Jefferson County Criminal District Court. 1985 to 2005, he was the US District Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas. He was selected to TCA Board to help re-write the felony sentencing guidelines (adopted into law by Texas Legislatures) that now includes felony enhancements based on prior convictions, increased stiffer penalties for domestic violence with felony enhancement for 2nd+ offenses, a strong proponent of court ordered drug treatment programs, and deferred sentencing guidelines for first time offenders with elevated sentencing guidelines for failure to complete court ordered programs. 1979 to 1985, Assistant district attorney for Jefferson County, Texas.

Under the principle of "innocent until proven guilty", the defendant is entitled to be presumed innocent and these crimes are currently all just alleged. HOWEVER, they are very serious crimes and the likelihood he will be proven guilty seems to be quite high. Put him in jail with no opportunity for bail and schedule his hearing ASAP. Because if those allegations are true, the defendant has no place in general society unless he can reform.

Judge Stevens is great….whoever set this guy’s bond so low to begin with should be fired or disbarred…it’s absolutely shameful that what he did is placed so low on the bar of criminal behavior….i get defense attorneys have a job to do in advocating for their clients…but I don’t see how they do it & not puke after doing so….especially one who is pregnant. Seems as though the defendant usually ends up with more considerations than the victims or plaintiffs. And it IS an act of violence. People get angry and think they can do whatever they want and it’s justified or should be excused because he was angry. There should never be probation for this type of crime or any dismissals of charges.

I like that judge Stevens reads a summary we can appreciate why he thinks the bond is far too low. What puzzles me is the defendants attorney asking for a lower bond, he knows Judge Stevens feelings on DV esp with a gun involved. While the defendant may have pushed for this hearing, his attorney really should have warned him that judge Stevens is almost certainly going to increase his bond.

What you and the judge ate doing is wrong and unconstitutional. He is being punished as guilty before he even had a trial. A woman or person can accuse anyone. It doesn't make it so. It can happen to you. Basically. Get in an argument with a neighbor. They say you flashed a gun and threatened them. The cops arrest you. Write that in the report. God forbid you try and argue as you're being arrested. You get resisting as well. You now have a 500,000 bond. If you don't have it, you sit in jail until trial. Is that really fair?

We raised our son to have respect for women he learned well from our relationship at home how to treat one another. He is married, they were just here for holidays...it makes me proud to see him interact with his wife in a spousal capacity, i know we did our job well parenting him. The answer is very simple yet complicated. Most perpetrators do not walk around wearing a sign that says, "I beat my partners". They're very good at manipulating, lying, and scheming. By the time they're physically abusing their significant others, they've already tore them down and stripped them of their self-esteem. They isolate them from family and friends and control important aspects of their lives, like finances. There's more but I'd suggest researching online. There's a plethora of information.

@@Rebecca-hc5ju Are you suggesting the defendant's appearance doesn't scream out the type of person he is? You don't consider the tattoo above the eye is a little bit of a giveaway? Little doubt he has gone from abusive relationship, to abusive relationship, to abusive relationship - and it's very likely the victim of this lowlife has also gone from abusive relationship, to abusive relationship, to abusive relationship. The vast, vast majority of women never experience violent domestic relationships, whereas a small percentage of women have nothing but...

In today's society, if you don't treat a girl like garbage, she'll find someone who will. I could never have a relationship in today's world, I don't punch, kick, threaten with a gun, or otherwise misuse women. Today's women want bad boys, drug dealers, or wife beaters to lay around with. Men with good character are laughed at and pitied.

You've **got** to give the PD credit, I suspect Judge Steven's opinions in regard to piece-of-shit women beaters is likely well known and yet he **still** at least puts on a pretense of trying to get his client an improvement lol.

With the offenses described it is unfathomable that the defense is requesting a reduced bond amount! It is equally frustrating that with the prior conviction history that the prosecutor is not refusing Bain on any exit! It is only because the judge is articulate and cares about the events and the charges that the defendant is considered for any bail whatsoever.

I love how he handles abusers and those making excuses for them. I remember a defense attorney starting to use the, "well why didn't she just leave" spiel and was shut down so quickly it made their head spin

I sure hope the defendant forced his lawyer to try to get the bond reduced. Then he gets to realize he should listent o the professional's counsel moving forward. 70K up to 200K and everybody expressing astonishment that the initial bond had been set at such a low value. This was a bad call though I find myself rather happier that he's now 130K farther away from getting out on bond.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 And the defence attorney says “oh but it’s not a random attack “ as if that’s a lesser crime than an attack on a partner in the home? Really? But I guess that’s the role of defence attorneys = to try to diminish crimes of their clients. But this attempt is beyond nonsensical.

I guess they just say whatever bs they feel like because they know their pos client is going to jail anyway. Either way they get paid. If I was a lawyer I'd only put in effort if I knew my client was actually innocent.
