Long Island, Metro New York fishing reports updated weekly at www.thefisherma...
It’s been a tough week weather-wise with very little effort as a result of all the wind, rain and rough seas, but it looks like the wind will finally lay down for Saturday and Sunday. The full moon is Friday night, and with all of the big stripers residing in Montauk’s rips, expect some wild action for those drifting live eels on night tides this weekend. Live baits like porgies and spot should produce some big fish on daytime tides. For those who can get to them, the South Shore’s reefs and wrecks should be well stocked with sea bass, fluke, porgies and ling since they have gone virtually untouched for at least a week. Fluking in all the bays was less affected by this week’s weather and should be worth some effort, but you should definitely plan your fishing to coincide with the last couple of hours of the incoming and start of the outgoing current. Light tackle, bucktails and Gulp are a good choice, but you might also try catching some snappers and fishing them live for a shot at some better quality flatties. Up on the North Shore, you can count on filling a bucket with porgies throughout most of the Sound from a boat and even from many shore spots. Clams or worms have been the ticket for solid porgy action. Surfcasters should think about heading to Montauk where big blues have been busting up tackle all week along the north side.
