On 21st December 2020, Jupiter and Saturn will appear only 0.1 degree apart (1/5th of a moon's width) They have not been that close since 1623 AD, (but that apparently was not observable), so since 1226 AD for being actually seen in the sky. I made this video by screen-grabbing use of the "Stellarium" astronomy programme to zoom in and out among the two planets.
