Interesting to see the power draw on those CPUs. Now I have something interesting to report on my findings on the "idle" power consumption on the 13700K Raptor Lake. According to the outlets on the serious side, they report an average power draw on their testing beds something like 55 Watts of "idle" power, running win or reboot(tm)11. Whatever M$ wants to make us believe in "idle" is anything but. My 13700K shows almost a similar picture, but I notice that one detail, which Americans don't seem to be able to see. For one second, the system powers down to 27.5 Watts, before win11 or reboot(tm)11 enters the "party forever" mode, or more commonly known as "power saving" mode and up goes the power draw. However, on my main Linux desktop, whenever the system goes "idle" and stays there and the screen goes off, the power draw on my machine goes down to 31.5 Watts, then 29.8 Watts, then after the screen goes dark it shows 27.5 Watts, which varies between the 27.5 and 28.1 Watts, depending on which daemon needs to do something, before going idle again. Another observation on the topic of "Raptor Lake is hot", is that, at least on some Gigabyte motherboards, the CPU will put insane voltages on the CPU. On my motherboard, it was 1.518V, according to HWINFO - ouch! That was at factory defaults on the core clocks and vcore set to "normal" in the BIOS settings. In the BIOS, the vcore shows 1.200V as default, and by setting this value, the CPU drew far less power and produced much less heat. 70° to 81° C, compared to 100° to 101° C and package draw 265 Watts, compared to 293 Watts, at 1.188V during Cinebench23 multicore test.

So I’m upgrading from the 9900K to the 14900KF with a Z690 Apex and I’m not complaining about getting the 14-”gen”, raptor lake refresh for the same price point as the 13-gen. Here in Sweden every new generation, or as in this case a refreshed previous gen, always costs more. Even though the msrp is the same or less, here the price always increases. So personally I’m not complaining. Furthermore, seeing how I haven’t seen any moronic marketing of the 14000-series if there’s no price increase then I honestly don’t see any issue with this slightly updated refreshed 13-gen. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I guess what I’m saying is that when deciding between a 13900K and a 14900K, with the price being identical as it is here in Sweden at the moment, it’s a no brainer.. @@bltzcstrnx this makes no sense when the primary issue with the Windows scheduler is with big.LITTLE core assignment - it's really clear in single threaded tasks and games like CS2. The only effect this issue has on AMD is that cache transfer isn't minimised on 2ccd chips.

@@laceflower_ just read the news when the first Intel asymmetric released. Look at the benchmark at Phoronix before and after Linux updated to support it. Linux support comes late because they prioritize writing the scheduler for Windows first. Specialized schedulers come in the driver package. This is why Samsung Exynos almost always loses to Qualcomm even when their raw compute power is almost the same. Qualcomm simply writes better drivers and schedulers. These drivers and schedulers are written by the chip manufacturers. This is true for Windows, Android, and GNU/Linux. Yes OS developers are involved, but if the chip maker doesn't initiate the support they likely don't care. Of course both AMD and Intel wanted their chip to perform best in both Windows for the consumer market and Linux for the enterprise server market. Yes you read that right, corporations care about Linux because of its usage in enterprise servers, not desktop. This includes Microsoft since they are also a member of The Linux Foundation.

3:51 No. The score dropped by 3,200 points. (Not the 1000 points you stated there.) Originally it was at 40,893 Now it's at 37,713.

You are comparing, without Hwinfo etc running vs with hwinfo running and then ecod. 2:53 shows it's rounded to 1000. The 2:58 one of 40893 was with the other apps CLOSED. So no, it's not 3200 points and he is correct.

Would have loved to see more power limited benchmarks, for for example bf2042. Also slightly surprised by the very bad 80 watts result. I thought the previous power limited video on the 13900k showed the cpu was kind of efficient on lower wattages.

Coming from an old amd cpu. Do you recommend the hero board or the new dark hero? Or even maybe strix board. Curious for mild overclocking on a custom loop

What I have thought since the 12th gen parts came out is why doesnt intel get rid of the e-cores on high end parts and save this for HEDT. Most consumers dont need more than 8 cores and they could use that cpu die space to instead slap more cache on. I bet if they did the amd x3d parts would look far less impressive

I know how to disable the e cores but have no Idea how to overclock the p cores. Did you overclock the p cores in the bios or with a windows software?

@14:31 you say the 14900K is faster than the 7800X3D but your chart says it's slower.

the difference between the 14900k is it has a higher base clock and boost clock on the P cores and E cores out of the box , otherwise its the same as 13900k .. so its a better binned chip then the original !!! thats what i found ..

You think that they would have least added some additional cache to further compete with the AMD 3D CPUs. Basically everything I've seen you gained 100 MHz. Whoopi... 😬

Why does the 14900k lose so much performance at a 80watt power limit? You made a video about doing the same thing on the 13900k and it didn't have to same problem

For Battlefield 2042 at around 8:30 you say that 7800X3D is around 3% slower but the chart says otherwise. So what is it exactly?

you need to DISABLE Asus MultiCore Enhancement (set it to Enforce All Limits) to make the processor work at its default power limits. Then the 14900K runs at max 253W and gets 40k in CB R23. And if you repeat the tests with Asus MCE disabled, you will get better gaming results

the power usage is my main reason to have switched to AMD. Especially since performance is pretty equal now. And i expect i can use my AM5 board for a while. Intel printing a bigger number on their CPU has not convinced me otherwise... The power to performance ratio is still absolutely and compltely abyssmal.

Your assumption that frequency overclock does not have a bearing on the lifetime of the CPU is incorrect for the X3D. Higher frequency means more work per unit of time. Which means more power draw. More power draw means more heat. More heat means harder heat cycles on the CPU. Harder heat cycles is what breaks the vCache join to the CPU die (since they are two distinct layers on top of each other). Voltage does the same. And this will be a problem further in time, even for Intel and their upcoming "tiles". It is true that for classic CPUs fequency does not have a bearing on the lifetime if it is not overheating, but voltage does since it produces leakage which can dissolve copper layers into the low-K dielectric. This is not the case here. The X3D does not break because of that.

Hello DB. What is your setting when doing a OC 6 Ghz? I am also running that setting but with temperature limits -1 bin at 70 and 80c... Are you able to keep all cores at 100% 6 ghz below 100c? I want to know voltage and LLC and if you use temp limits. Thanks.
