Both bridges were bombed by American aircraft during the Korean War in an attempt to cut off Chinese supplies to the North Koreans. The bridges were repeatedly repaired. The 1911 bridge was left destroyed and only the newer 1943 bridge repaired. The North Koreans claimed that they did not want to rebuild the broken bridge so that the United States could not deny the fact they destroyed it.4 spans of the old bridge remained on the Chinese side of the river, giving it the name the "Broken Bridge".

@XL290 Not sure. However, there were lots of unfinished bridges around. We heard some bridges and constructions had been sponsored by the Soviet Union and when it collapsed there was no money to finish them.

@jpsholland Thank you for your comments. It was like a time machine. We were filming from a moving train and we had no guides accompanying us so I guess it was easier. It was not possible to move around and film or photograph freely once we got off the train. When we left the country, border officers checked some of our photos and erased some (e.g. showing soldiers). The train stopped for four hours for border check before entering China.

The situation is than similar like in Cuba: There are a lot of unfinished roads and overpasses (flyovers) - even the most important highway from Havanna to Santiago de Cuba is half-built and is now the construction no more made: the investition was paid by the soviets and after it collapted nobody financed the rest. It was me said they are now hoping on the venezuelan oil money, but Hugo Chaves seems to be less spendable then the former Soviet Union

That is the socialist theory and ideal, but it is not followed through in North Korea. Healthcare, while free, is severely lacking of even basic medical supplies and technology. This is based on accounts from foreign aid workers, who shouldnt even need to be there. If life in NK is so ideal, why are they so secretive? Why do they deny the starvation, homelessness and economic stagnation that we have much evidence of? NK is far from the socialist paradise they say it is and what you think it is.

In my Country, our biggest brainwashing and propaganda machine, radio and TV media, says that, the fields shown here, are prison camps, and the villages, dormitories. -Oh! Let me guess: North Koreans removed them for you to pass!...Just being ironic. Look: these two videos bring nothing new to me; without having gone there yet, personally, I have been watching these countryside green fields, for quite a while. -They have a very good farming system! -The point is: my Country does not have any!...

You must have nerves of high tension steel to do this. The north Korean police, and there are lots of them and not always in uniform, will respond on a camera like the european police wil respond if one walking with a gun in his hand on a crowded street. The soundtrack is rather sinister and fit well with the image we have with North Korea. An image that probely will be true. That train is like a time machine. Nevertheless, some day Korea will be one again like Germany.
@Dovenpeis

Well, atleast just walking with a gun in your hand won't get you shot and summarily executed by police in Europe, like you most certainly would have in the United States.

Horor. Z jedný strany moderna (Čína), z druhý strany moderna (Jižní Korea) a uprostřed návrat do železniční doby kamenné. A budu se opakovat, asi nejstrašnější jsou velkoprostorová lehátka. A nehodlám si dělat iluzi o tom, že se v tamním vlaku nekrade.

This is utter nonsense. It's the Sino-Korea, Sino-Korean, or China-North Korea Friendship Bridge (renamed from Yalu River Bridge in 1990). It was constructed by the imperial Japanese between April 1937 and May 1943, during their occupation of Korea and Manchukuo, to span the Yalu River. About 60 m (66 yd) downstream are the remains of an older bridge constructed between May 1909 and October 1911.

North Korea is so beautiful, its natural, India used to be like this sometime before not anymore, in the name of development all the farming fields are taken by the Corporate and all the Water channels have become polluted. North Korea, you are better of how you are, don't compare yourself with shitty Countries from West. You are beautiful and natural. God bless North Korea, people and your leader Kim sir.
