One of modt fascinating articles i read was about the Israeli Civil Guard sniper unit which started with k98s ,then members could buy other rifles and scopes as they wanted ,as long as they were 7,62 . Just a great story about the unique unit that was just so well set up .

It's really impressive that you know your skill well enough to distinguish between user error and a problem with the equipment

When shooting in sniper team, we always preach honesty with yourself, otherwise, spotter can’t correct the shot. So calling your own shots is something what was beaten to my head over the years and it becomes second nature. Going back to that shot, it really felt good, I knew that I did everything I could to put that shot on target. So when that didn’t happen and weather conditions don’t justify the outcome, there was only one possibility left, something was happening with the rifle / scope. Especially because I was “dancing” on those plates already. So either gun or ammo…but having camera “watching” me and option to review the footage, truly helped to nail the problem. I feel vindicated 🤣

I have an IDF K98 built by FN. It's NOT a sniper rifle, but it shows very little wear, and the rifle shoots very well. Every time I look at it, I'm amazed to see the very rifle which pushed people into concentration camps wearing the IDF (the old logo of the Haganah-a Star of David with sword and olive branch) crest rolled onto the top of the receiver. It's almost an impossible piece of history.

I bought a 98K at a gun show for $40 , found it to be manufactured in a concentration camp , cant recall where , it always had a bad feeling when I used it , gave it away , his name was Larry , and he had nothing but bad luck with it ever sense , never worked right sense , so he say's.

I walked into my local gun store and saw a long wood box on the floor. He just got a 1968 Lee Enfield sniper rifle, complete with scope (in metal box) and accessories. He's asking $7k for it.

Noway I’ll pay $7 k for fudster rifle. For that price you can get F class custom action custom barrel, custom trigger, custom chassis and money to spare for night force scope, rifle will shoot 0.25 mfg load guaranteed. Stop drinking the cool aid classic mil surp rifle aren’t worth 1/3rd of what these fudster boomer asking for. Am sure the scope came with that British rifle was best at the time but I would not beat $200 Walmart scope nowadays. And in this economy common

Springs wear out over time. I'd disassemble the mount...take the springs to an Industrial Distributor like "Grainger" (or even Ace Hardware) and replace the springs with newer, stronger ones.

I took the mount apart too. This is just bad design. Springs will always wear out…they should make it lockable with screws on the side
@brianhoxworth3881

If a gunsmith could thread the existing screws all the way , then that's a sure fix without real modification. Though, I'm sure the new springs would work for a good long time.

Drill and Tap it and be done with it. I don't like QR mounts and change them out whenever possible. Springs on a scope mount is like a screen door on a submarine no bueno!!. The reason you had trouble with that one cartridge is the cartridge jumped up in front of the claw extractor instead of under it. You pushed it hard and the extractor went over the cart. As you know Mausers need to feed from the mag unless it's one that has the extractor slot cut in it like some M-48s or 24/47s do and i'd still feed those from the mag. Dropping a cart. on top of the follower and ramming it home like you can do with a '03 or 03A3 or Pre 64 M-70 Winchester etc that have a cone breech and extractor slot in a Mauser can cause the Claw Extractor to break making the rifle useless untill you replace it. That's first thing I show every customer with a Mauser it saves them from learning a hard lesson. Looking to the follow up video. Thanks Rob.

Yeah, i thought i pushed that one down, but i guess he freed himself up - ha! I think drill and tap would be best solution, but that's up to Mark to decide.

KZitem reversed their decision. I can monetize videos now, but at very different rate than "regular" videos. For example, short with 50k views, makes around $0.07 - this isn't typo...I have to see how they will rate non short videos tho.
