I used to hunt around the prerie grass field but quail were all gone in the 90's. Good to see they are back.

Very nice. It's been close to 30 years since I last hunted pheasant. And I have not hunted quail since about 1980. Unfortunately...or fortunately... depending on how you look at it...I never hunted with a bird dog. And very rarely with a group of people. It was almost always just me, by myself.

That’s one motivation for me to hit it hard now while I’m still able to walk 8-10 miles a day and keep up with these dogs. I know there will come a day when I won’t be able to also.

I used to hunt the area around Stockton. Great state for wing shooting. As soon as I get my new dog ready, I'm going back. Those dogs worked nicely together.

They are definitely hit-and-miss. We put on about 8 to 10 miles a day and the dogs do probably 3 times that. Now finding birds that will hold and not flush wild ahead of you is the hard part!

You must be on the NC coast. We don't have a huntable number of quail in the foothills. We had 6 bird dogs at one time. Hunted around Red Cloud Nebraska 70,80and 90. Sure do miss it. Good luck

Great to see your lovely dogs. I used to raise & train GSP on the Big Island of Hawaii and my last male looked exactly like yours. I always loved spending a day w/ my dogs, by myself, the perfect day. His name was Koa.

@@TRPLCCOOP Kansas is my favorite to hunt for game. South Dakota has it beat when it comes to pheasant numbers but other than that it's hard to beat Kansas. I think the WIHA program is what makes it so great.

I was pretty surprised by it when he flushed. He had a wound that looked like he had been grabbed by a coyote.

It looked like the pointer knew the diff between rooster and hen. My labs figure that out, I can tell by how focused they get on a scent.

Yes, roosters only. You can shoot hens on preserves but not wild birds.
