NASRULLAH KADI MOSQUE
The first monumental work of Ottoman Empire in Kastamonu; Nasrullah Mosque is an important symbol for both its majestic structure and its witnessing in important historical events. The mosque is located in the city centre; has a square, water-tank, a bridge along with a madrasah which was built later, resembles a social complex. The mosque is the biggest in Kastamonu with its bridge and water tank with fountains built by Nasrullah Kadı in II Beyazıd’s period, in the year 1506. Until the year 1746, when it was extended; the mosque had 6 domes and after the extension the mosque had 9 domes. The calligraphy and decorations inside the mosque was written by infamous calligraphist of Kastamonu Ahmet Şevket Effendi. During the years of war of independence, our national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy; who was seeking support throughout the Anatolia, gave a preaching in Nasrullah Mosque and first read the National Anthem before it was accepted in Turkish Grand National Assembly.
