sad fact is, that 99,9% of germans never even heard about this. These young people are the absolute exeption without exaggeration. the dark times wiped nearly everything out sadly. being only half german this feels very present to me, being able to compare the german with another native identity. As a kid growing up in germany I never saw it and i think thats normal. You can not miss something you never knew it existed. you can not be interested in some meaning you never understood. For a surten degree, I think most modern Germans can not feel what it is like to be actually rooted in a cultural identity. I wished i was able to learn about things like these dances or music, because I knew what it feels like being able to whitness what folkloric customs can do with you energetically. Dancing with a group of one hundred-two hundred people hand by hand... that can really do something with you. you can really feel that giant amount of energy that flows through your body thats being generated by all those humans, if you synchronize yourself with so many other people at the same time. these are experiences that are priceless. If you ask yourself why some people over the world have the image of being " friendly" or open I can tell you.. This is exactly why! gaining positive collective ideas, experiences through synchronizing with people, that can socially totally differ from your own status, but through shared customs and social happenings open for all like this, practized on a more or less regulary basis, that can create a lasting social climate within the group of people that share this kind of experience. technically spoken. I don´t wanna praise nationalism here, thats a unhealthy abuse of those practical practises.

Thank you for this! I was just watching a video about folk dances from the Balkans and the comments kinda made me sad. Of course the people were proud but it always makes me feel like they think they are better than the germans. So many foreigners in Germany and most of them don't want to be a part of this country and culture. And then again...what you wrote! Germany kinda lost itself after the WW2. It's been nearly 80 years and I have no idea if it will get better in the future. I doubt it. It makes me sad to feel this way about the country I was born and raised in and still live to this day (with a 2 year exception). I'm from the west but I think it's better in the south. At least.
