I just run a Kestrel Ballistic Drop that connects to my phone--Strelok can ping it for my environmentals and I practice my wind calls. Then I write my shooting solutions down in a dope book for later reference. As far as environmental data goes, I only track density altitude and air temperature because those are the two biggest factors in my bullet's flight. I ascribe to the Ryan Checkerboard train of thought: don't get wrapped around the axil on the tech; make your best estimation of your shooting solution, take a good shot, correct, and write your data down. Calculators are great tools, but if you're not already a master of the fundamentals get good at shooting first before you worry about them.

I have the 5700 Elite Ballistics version link for Sniper Elite 3-5. I have improved alot for making long range shots with the rifle cartridge info. I needed accurate range data Mosin Nagant and Mauser for both games along with the other WW2 rifle data and haven't looked back.

So now I’m looking to update my 4500nv to the 5700. Which one should I get. I understand the difference between the ballistic and elite ballistic but i won’t use the accuracy 1st and if I need I can up load different guns when needed....... but if you think it’s better going the elite, why ( won’t take much twisting my arm)

Thanks again Ray for a great video. I did as you said and verified dope from 50 to 200 by 50 yard increments. I started to see at 235 , 275 and 300 the dope was off. At first by a few tenths at 235 then by 300 a mill or so. I tried to mess with the dsf but when I did it changed all the dope back to 100. It messes with the volocity. If I heard you correctly in video it should not had changed any dope before the yardage I changed for dsf for. I’m sure I did something wrong. Any idea what I could have done wrong ? I’m new to kestrel. Thank you for any input you might be able to give.

Whenever I see this Keith, I tell people to start all over with a new profile and do it again from start to finish. 50 yard zero. Check 100 if good leave it alone. If not, correct Muzzle velocity. Check 150 and 200. Do not mess with DSF yet. Anything after 200 then DSF for 250,300,350. Should do the trick. Just make sure you create a new profile from scratch .

Hey Ray, I'm just getting into PRS and have built both a rimfire and centerfire rifle. I bought a 5700x kestrel with link and I am looking to buy a rangefinder. is there any benefit of me getting the fury 5000 or sig or should I just buy a regular range finder without Bluetooth and AB and only pay half the price ?
@XRING
2 жыл бұрын
Great question and congrats. Just get a nice set of rangefinding binos. It’s nice to have a backup. I don’t use the ab function on the binos but they make scanning for targets easier.

How about for NRL22? Whats the best setup for rimfire shooting?
@XRING
3 жыл бұрын
Same setup except you will need to true out your DSF. Search for your bullet profile under .224 and find your ammo. Velocity needs to be confirmed out of your rifle with chronograph. I personally zero at 50 yards. Test your drops all the way out to 200 yards and adjust with MV calibration ONLY then shoot 300 true out DSF then shoot 400 and true out DSF again. Never adjust DSF afterwards. I hope this makes sense. I will do a video on this In the next few weeks. Thanks for watching.
