Thanks for the great Telluride Videos! I changed my oil after 1206 miles and cut open the filter to see if there were any metal shavings. I was SHOCKED at how many metal shavings were trapped in the filter. Hundreds of little pieces of metal were in there. I assume the filter did it's job and grabbed them all, that's why they were in there, but man was that unnerving. My 2022 Telluride is the first new car I've ever owned so I don't have anything to compare it to but I'm still amazed at how many shavings were in there. I also put a big rare earth magnet on the oil drain plug before I even drove the car home - knowing I would replace the plug after my first oil change with a normal magnetic plug. The factory plug, which after 1206 miles was very magnetized, had no shavings on it. So there's that. I know most of those shavings are probably aluminum anyway so the magnet may not make a difference but it can't hurt. One IMPORTANT note about refilling the oil (and I see you had the towel around your funnel) is to either do this with the towel or just pour the oil very slowly. There is a diverter plate just inside the oil filler tube neck that keeps oil from splashing up to the cap. This diverter prevents oil from getting in the hole quickly. I, not having noticed the flap, glugged the oil into my funnel just like I've done on every car I've ever owned, and it all overflowed the tube, rand all down the serpentine belt, all into the alternator, and everywhere else you never want oil to get. HUGE FREAKIN MESS! I was so mad at myself. I cleaned everything as best I could and it doesn't seem to have made any difference at all with belt slippage. No screaming at startup. That was about 200 miles ago and it seems to be all good.

Is this car eating oil? 6.5qt went in and only about 4qt went out! Yes, I made sure car was warm before draining, yes I opened the drain under the hood, car was sloping a bit back at around 15-20 degrees (where the plug is), yes waited 10min or so for all oil to drain and even poured half a cup of fresh oil to "flush" a bit. Is this normal? Thanks. P.S. Regularly check oil levels and did have to add oil in between changes, but not a lot. Never saw an oil spill under the car.

It may be. These thinner oils should still only vaporize at above 400f, but very possible you are burning off oil. It does seem high though. What intervals are you using? I always use a shorter than recommended 5,000 miles. I think maybe .5 quarts would be accurate. But 2.5 seems like something more than normal oil burn off.

Owing to its natural gas source- its susceptible to burning off quickly (lower flashpoint) and leaving carbon deposits. You’re better off with a 100% synthetic oil (group 4 & 5 base oils) , not ‘fully synthetic.’

Warranty isn’t voided. In the US a consumer isn’t required to go to a dealer for service. You only have to be able to prove that you keep up on the regular mntc. This video in itself serves proof, but I also keep the receipts in an app. Don’t let anyone make you believe a warranty is contingent on service through a dealer.
