I recently got into chia seeds. Never thought of putting them in oats. I’m gonna try this! Got any recipes for chia seeds pudding?

Blueberries being high in oxalates makes them tricky for those of us with CKD and being prone to stone forming. I have had oatmeal, real cinnamon and blueberry breakfasts for years. Relatively recently I have been having fewer blueberries and squeezing the juice from half a lime into the mix. Hoping that counteracts the oxalate content. I have seen contradictory advice re. chia seeds, as to the oxalate content being a risk for stone forming, or not. Advice please?

Hello! Blueberries and bananas are both low oxalate fruit! 1 cup of blueberries is ~ 4 mg oxalate and 1 banana is ~ 3 mg oxalate. Chia seeds are higher in oxalates than ground flaxseeds. As well as walnuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. So those are all substitutions you could make. Also, using a milk/yogurt or plant milk fortified with calcium with the meal if you are a calcium oxalate stone former would be the most effective to ensure the calcium binds the oxalate. I have a video on oxalates that you can check out: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2GuorIGom5upoXo and also a longer video interviewing a kidney stone dietitian under the "Kidney Nutrition Information playlist!

Hello! 1 ounce of peanuts is 199 mg potassium, 107 mg phosphorus and 7 grams protein. So portion and frequency just depends on your individual nutrient needs!

Looks good Michelle. But since I can not eat seeds or nuts( digestive disease) can the seeds be left out?

You can definitely leave the seeds out! They help add plant protein and fiber though. You could try walnuts or pecans if you're able to handle that without digestive issues. Or even a nut butter!

I can not eat seeds or nuts. But nut butters are a good option. Thank you. 😊

How do you stay full on a plant base diet. I am always hungry. I can't afford to loose weight

You definitely need to ensure adequate calories! Healthier fats from nuts, seeds, avocado, olive oil, avocado oil. Coconut milk/shreds can be used to add calories. Adding the fat is important for the veggies/legumes that are lower calorie. Fruit and whole grains will be a little higher in calories. Also, the higher fiber content of plant pre-dominant diets helps with staying full!
