@@davewalkeden6932 Dave, perhaps you are right, because I have never heard anyone deny John Deacon's talents as a very skilled musician, bassist and songwriter. Underappreciated? Yes! I'm a long-time Queen fan who understands his contributions were an integral part of Queen's success! Clearly, he was the most quiet and reticent of the four, comparing to the very flamboyant personalities of the others. He did not want to bask in the limelight, yet he added a very powerful dynamic to the band's sound. He skillfully transitioned through the band's myriad of different styles and genres, all while adding, sometimes subtly, a very distinctive element to Queen's unique sound. And his songwriting contributions are undeniable! Mr. Deacon has obviously chosen to enjoy a well-deserved retirement with his family, all while staying out of the public eye. I am grateful for all he has given me and music fans throughout the world! I wish him well. 🙂

This IS the original bass line recorded by John Deacon. As stated elsewhere, the run down was overdubbed later. Also, yes if you wanted to be pedantic, it is slightly out of tune but this is how it was done in the '70's - no help from digital equipment. Most isolated tracks sound rough until mixed and blended with the other tracks. Then the blemishes are harder to discern. Top bass player.

There were strobe tuners in the 70's btw. Truth is, stuff goes out of tune after being in the studio playing all day.

As a person when listening to the finished track, they wouldn't notice, and nobody else doesn't, not even me until we listen to the bass track alone. When bass-strings are getting colder when being un-used, there might be a possibility for it to automatically be de-tuned. Maybe Deacy left his bass for too long between the moment he tuned and recorded.
@rome8180

Or the intonation just wasn't even across the whole fretboard. Basses are frequently out of tune with themselves. It's only now that we feel everything has to be perfect.
@TeamMastaPr2

It is original, it's just Deacon who forgot to tune it properly.
@rome8180
Жыл бұрын
He didn't forget to tune. His instrument either went out of tune while playing, or it was not in tune with itself. Some of the notes are dead on, and some are out of tune. That's common on a bass guitar if it hasn't been set up recently. Also, when you play with flatwound strings it exaggerates any intonation problems.

I used this track when I learned by ear and it wasn't really that out of tune as you say. It doesn't sound like the original because all the other instrument has been removed. The run-down is not here because it's an overdub, and I found a similar track which contain the overdubbed run-down as well over the basic line. And these tracks are ripped of from Rock Band 3 (music game) where they use the original and it's original key. Search for the other track if it's avaiable in your country.
