Very interesting variation. The original master recording that ended up on the true 1st pressing with cat # NB9001 is much dryer and in your face compared to the summer 1974 re release of the LP. 'Kissing Time' was recorded in April and added onto side 2 of the record (NBLP7001).
This song had more reverb and headroom so my guess is that they did some post mixing to fit the soundstage of 'Kissin' Time'.
A new mastering for the NBLP7001 pressing was done by 'AZ' (Allen Zentz, Los Angeles). The original NB9001 was mastered at Bell Sound in NYC by Joe Brescio.
Needless to say I prefer the NB9001 sound any day of the week. The original master reels were deleted or lost so to this day no other pressing than the NB9001 exist.
