Great pliers! Back in 2019 I purchased the 6" versions - Knipex 87 01 150 SBA Cobra Pliers) along with the Pliers Wrench - the smooth one you mentioned (Knipex 86 03 150 Pliers Wrench), and the smaller 5" Knipex KNIP-8701125SBA Knipex 5" OAL Cobra Pliers / SKU: KNIP-8701125SBA. This last one I keep in my EDC sling pouch along with a Vic Huntsman with the GITD scales.

I did a very similar thing around spring of 2020. I added small Crescent tongue and grove pliers into the same sheath as my Victorinox Soldiers knife. The ability to use a screw driver from the pocket knife on a bolt, and the pliers on a nut, beats a single multitool any day. The combination also shaved off ounces vs my Leatherman Charge, and adds a bit more functionality.

Good duo! I have something pretty similar in my pocket right now, the Cobra XS and a SAK Climber with black plus scales (for the pen) and a pocket clip on it. It's not for maintenance or anything specific, more for general EDC, everything from mountain bike repairs to picking up hot pans in the kitchen or when camping. The steel on the Knipex is forged rather than cast and machined like on a multitool so that's why they're stronger. I like carrying my Cobra XS with a Spyderco like the Urban too but then I add a pocket bit driver and tiny SAK for the scissors so it's no longer that minimalist but still a good configuration.

Currently carry a Surge and 2 bit cards, small pry bar, flashlight, 6' tape measure, bit extender, and of course a locker and a slip joint. I would like to the 125's to the rest of it. Really helped that you talked about the slip for the pliers. That will make it much easier to carry them.

It really does depend on what you come in contact with more frequently. I have a huge spool of steel wire and like my multitool pliers because the wire cutter capability. I wish the cobra had that wire cutting capability as well. I plan on getting the 125mm / 5" cobra. The multitool needle nose pliers cannot really clamp down on bolts (like on my bike) the way I see cobras can. I'll have to carry both cobra and multitool pliers until I find tiny wire cutters. 😉 I've got 6 1/2 inch Stanley wire cutters (made in Japan, so assuming good quality) that I found in the shed of the house I now live in. Guess I was thinking of 4" cutters but maybe I'll just carry the ones I have now. I'll look into getting a small leather tool pouch for my belt. I have Victorinox RangerGrip 58 hunter as well, for the one hand open blade capability and other tools built in.

the thing about pliers is that different kinds are used for particular jobs. Miniature cobra pliers are good for gripping and manipulating bolts, nuts, or anything that needs tightening or loosening. However, they lack precision or even usefulness reaching into very tight spots, or when cutting or bending delicate/thin things, like wire

I've bought mine 2 years ago before the Knipex xs came. Don't buy those with flat jaws it limits the usage a lot as they are somewhat like an adjustable wrench. The Leatherman is crap and not worth the money. The xs may be nice for someone who just occasionally has a use for them. If you want real grip and unbelievable strength go with the Cobra 125 mm like yours. :)

I have tried using multitool pliers in my workshop one day - and they are horrible, worse than the cheapest real combination/ lineman's type pliers. Let alone using it as a water pump pliers. Can't imagine someone using multitool pliers or a swiss knife professionally on a daly basis. Multitools/ knifes - are great having them in your backpack or pocket when on the go, just in case you need to use some of the blades / tools in them in emergency, but that is all about it. And Knipex pliers or, let's say - Wera screwdriver sets - ...is another story...
