Good details in the video. Most people throw their old auto lite on a shelf for a Holley. Other than the issue with stumble in hard corner I prefer them for a daily driven vehicle. The annular boosters on the autolite are great at atomizing fuel and result in a very snappy throttle response. The autolite boosters are far superior to any stock holley booster. A few more details some people don’t know. The accelerator pump and power valve are Holley parts even after they switched to Ford jets. The Venturi size is only half the story. The boosters also sized differently. They are stamped with a letter code. Ford used different sized boosters and jet combinations to dial in a carb for the vehicle and engine it was built for. I haven’t found a good source for decoding the boosters. I am one of the lucky ones that have a 4100 for a manual shift mustang. It’s going to look nice on my engine once I swap it over to the top loader laying in the corner of my shop.

These are fantastic Carbs. Definitely familiar with the hard corner stumbles (very noticably right turns...lol) I think if they had a more open aftermarket support they would be a real contender. A lot of people just don't know where to get parts or tuning pieces and that drives them away. The Summit 4bbl carb very closely mimmicks a 4100 with more Holley design and parts.(was originally a Holley product to begin with) I hear good things about them.
@AutoRestoMod

They just lack that annular discharge nozzle and rely on the Holley style which is a bit more sloppy.
@steveproctor1748

We used to replace them because the plastic rod that closes the secondaries would break off and it would hang wide open. You had to turn off the engine to get it to close. We were afraid to get on them for a race. I didn't know about the rod for years, till I had one that wasn't broken off. Now I always check that the rod is there and if iits missing I replace it with a screw that's the same diameter. I think that a new rod should come in the rebuild kit. I've always had good performance out of these carbs.
@theovallas

Thanks for the decoding info! I recently put an Edelbrock on my '72 F100's 360, replacing the 2100 (changed the intake too, obviously). The tag on the 2100 was D4PE, so I knew it was a '74 carb, but I never cared enough to investigate the PE. You inspired me to Google it. It was a 1974 Replacement Part Autolite. Would the original owner have needed to replace the original carb after two years? Or do you think he may have bought it several years later rebuilt and it happened to be a '74 replacement?

I'm not sure if the Holley 4160 side hung floats or the Autolite 4100 came out first. Some of their features reflect each other. But, the 4100 had annular discharge booster venturies. The Holley did not. The fuel and air was atomized better with the 4100's venturies.
