Their beef in a nutshell was shaq got complacent in being on the best team and by far the most dominant player he was living the LA celebrity life, not putting in the real work it takes to stay on top, shaq felt nobody could touch him so why work? He put in the bare minimum. Kobe still felt he had much more to prove and was always clocking in OT till the day he retired. So that wasn’t going to work, shaq felt as though it was his team and he was the leader so he didn’t have to listen to this young buck. Kobe wasn’t going

The reason that the Lakers chooses Kobe over Shaq, it’s because that Shaq is getting old and was at that time 3-5 more good years left in his tank, plus he became bloated, meanwhile Kobe was still in his prime years, still had some more good playing years on his career. If both had almost the same age, or even if Shaq is a little bit older than let’s say 2-3 or maybe even 5 years ahead of Kobe, definitely the Lakers would choose Shaq over Kobe
