I've got a bit of bad news. I've injured my shoulder, and at the moment I can't use the computer, or write for at least another couple of days, probably until next week or so. This means that I am unable to test the devices, or do the reviews I planned for next week and that indepth reviews of Kobo Elipsa and RoWrite2 will be delayed. As for new videos for next week, I don't know, as some editing is always necessary, even for simple videos, and at the moment I can't use the mouse at all, we'll have to see. So I just wanted to let you know about the delay, to know what's going on.

I love that your unboxing is deeper than most deeper reviews by others ;-) Thank you and Kobo for sending you the device! If I didn't like my Note Air so much, the Kobo would have been the biggest contender for me. The screen looks so white and crisp, just WOW! Just a shame they didn't implement Comfort Light Pro here. I really like the functionality of the cover (not its colour), but it wouldn't work as a stand in horizontal mode, would it? On the writing side I would hate having to go with just one dedicated stylus and not being able to find the perfect fit for me unless the existing pen of course would be perfect for me. Because of the missing Wacom layer I feel this is still more attractive to active readers than to active writers at least as it currently stands. The Advanced Notebook appears amazing though and very tempting. Would love to know which languages OCR currently supports and whether a split screen functionality with document and notebook is allowed. Also which pen technology is used? I believe it's not compatible with any other pen out there (Surface)? Thanks again Voja.

Hi Voja! Your video content is certainly one of the most thoroughly, honest and straight-to-the-point produced (if not the most, period) that I've ever found on inet. Kudos! One of the points that concerns me about the Ellipsa (correct me if am wrong) is... This is the very first e-ink gagdet with capability for taking side handwritten notes on an eBook format (that I know of), not just PDF, but... can you backup somehow your edited epubs, kepubs, mobis, etc...? I mean, picture an unwilling crash of your device, a firmware update gone awry, or the simple need to migrate towards to the future, to another Kobo. You certainly aren't allowed to upload your modified books via Dropbox (just PDFs or content under "My Notebooks" tab, afaik). Is there a Kobo cloud to store those, or in such cases, your annotations will be gone for good? (that would render the strongest point for this device, imho, completely useless, cause... who wanna work actively hours and hours in a content that will be irretrievably lost? And then again, how would you compare it to the Boox Note Air on all respects? Since the Note Air is running on Android and opens new broader possibilities for a device like this... How much better you deem the Ellipsa does those things that is specialized into, as opposed to the Note Air, say, reading books and taking notes, working on PDFs...? May I assume Kobo's policy for updating their firm/software will cover a longer lifespan than Onyx with their Boox line, since they keep shipping new product batches at least once a year? Would it be wise to pass on the Ellipsa and wait for a would-be more polished Note Air 2, throughout this year (since you can read both Kindle and Kobo books natively, bought on their respective shops) and yet retain the ability for taking notes, at the same form factor and size screen? (not to mention the capabilty to split the screen on the Note Air)? The Android Kobo app... does it perform as good as the native app in the Ellipsa, or are there any caveats on the user experience? And that crease in the cover that acts as a stand for the Ellipsa... is it designed to withstand, in good condition, bending and bending over time? And finally, should I give up all hope of having access to Readwise under the Kobo platform? Thank you in advance!

I'm very interested in the Advanced notes, not because of the conversions but actually just because of the scroll. I find that even as thin as the Note Air is, when I'm writing near the bottom of the page and my hand isn't fully on the device is not comfortable. I've been wanting an unlimited scroll feature for ages, that way you can always write where most comfortable. Can't wait for the full My Deep Guide review. To be honest, the pen is a dealbreaker. But are you sure, that there is no digitizer/wacom layer? A battery within the pen is no indicator - wacom AES is using batteries. I don't like them, because of the battery. But they are supposed to be more precise (especially in the Corner). An additional Point: i would prefer, that the epaper companies would concentrate to one Plattform (Android), so more eink-specialices Apps would become available.

Nice first look. I'm a reMarkable user, so probably won't get this device, but there's still a lot of things I hope to see in the full review. * how well does it handle PDFs? internal links, navigation, this kind of things. * of course I hope it lets you annotate PDFs, not just write in notebooks * very curious about these "advanced notebook" features, I hope the review will cover them in lots and lots of details * small thing, but being left-handed, I like how reMarkable lets you invert the menu positions so the menus don't get in your way. I'm curious as to whether the Elipsa has similar settings * notebook editing: copy/paste/rotate/scale, this kind of thing * is the processor fast enough to allow effortless zooming? (thinking of PDFs) * also, the image display seems pretty good, so I'm curious how good it is with images in PDF * and, inevitably: how good is it with _long_ PDF documents - hundreds of pages long Now, there's no hurry, of course. Please get well. And thanks for your reviews, they're very helpful in general.

This was announced like 2 days after I placed an order for a Supernote A5X. But honestly, while this looks like a really great device, I'm glad I went with the Supernote. They have more of a proven track record with note taking whereas this is Kobo's first note taking device. I'm sure it'll get support and do well with Kobo's good reputation though. I also don't need or care so much about reading functionality because I have a Kindle Oasis for that. Really glad to see more companies entering the note taking eInk tablet space. I hope it leads to more competition between all companies involved and we get a lot of new functionality across all these devices. For example, I'd like to see Supernote take influence and give us features like fountain and calligraphy pen options. Kobo should look at competition and add layers and custom templates, etc.

I seem to remember that on an iPad, Nebo not only excelled at turning handwritten prose into digital text, but converted handwritten mathematical expressions into LaTeX notation as well. Thus, when writing ∀ x (Fx ∨ ¬ Fx), Nebo would turn it into \forall x (Fx \vee eg Fx). Can anyone confirm that this works on the Kobo Elipsa too?
