For me at least, I also have questions around workflow. Like, what filetype is output if you upload to pc / dropbox? What does editing an EPUB or PDF look like (if you can do so)? What does exporting notes from an ebook look like? I guess hardware fiends like me are just.. well, obsessive fiends haha!

There is one glaring omission from the video. Exports. Yes, you mention a little bit of the export options but for example you don't mention the export FORMATS available. And most importantly, you don't show (or even mention) the results of exports. It would be interesting how well they export (be they PDFs or the notebooks you create on the device).

This went over taking notes in their basic and advanced notebooks, but not what happens when I take notes in a book/pdf. If I draw on a pdf or other ebook, mark it up with comments in the margins on 75 pages and highlight 22 pages in a 630 page book. What now? Can I look them up, bounce from note to note, or search through them? If I highlight sections of an epub, can i export those sections of text, or at least move through the ebpub from each highlighted section to the next for studying? Does it create an index of highlights and/or notes? Is this sort of functionality present or are they just there somewhere in that long book and I have to flip page by page by page to find them? If I have 500 books in my bookcase, can I see which ones have notes in them? Can I toggle the notes on/off in an epub so they aren't distracting while reading or would i have to do that page by page? If I use a program like Calibre to manage my books, do the changes/markups in epub/pdf files synch back to Calibre as a 2nd version of the pdf/epub? If I have a marked up pdf/epub, delete it from Elipsa after synching back to Calibre and then reimport at a later date, do i loose all my markups and notes?

When taking notes on an E-pub, does the circles and other marks adjust as you resize the text. On the last video, it's shown to remember the placement of the marks (as you switch between pages), but no test was done to see what would happen if you adjust the size of the text. Also is the notebook exported in PNG? (I'm assuming yes) Also, I know with my active stylus, I have to take the battery out when I'm not using it or the battery would be drain, if I let the pen sit to long.
@paufexas2340
3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't. According to Kobo's help page, if you resize they will indicate that there's a note there. If you click on the icon it will show you the original formatting with the note and give you the option to restore it to the formatting you had when the note was made.

I would like to hear from you on the specific capabilities of the capacitive digitiser. How much lag does the device experience when taking notes with the stylus? How does it compare with other eInk note taking devices? Is it something that may be improved further in upcoming software updates? Another comment has signaled that note taking shows more latency in the advanced notebook than in the basic notebook. How does it perform when taking notes on epubs or pdfs? Does the memory size of the ebook affect performance? What about a very long notebook? And then, I would like to have your say on all the above questions regarding the fidelity of the strokes.

2nd question... I’ve been looking for a note taking app that will allow hyperlinks... what I want to do is take notes and on selected entries I want to create a hyperlink that will create a clickable table of contents at the beginning of the note app ... the clickable table would show the title of the note which when “clicked” would forward me onto that specific note.. Have you heard of such an app or such a function on any note taking eReader? If not, maybe I could bug Kobo to write that fiction into their note taking app. Again, your response is appreciated.

I planned to buy myself a ReMarkable before going into Highschool, as it seemed like a good note taking tool and a family member had recently gotten one. She said amazing things about it, but after checking out prices, it was way out of my price range. Especially because I had to buy the stylus/case separately for insane amounts of money. No thanks. Earlier, I was shopping around for a new E-reader before I start highschool, since during lunch I like to read, and I’m currently reading Stephen King books, specifically It. I didn’t want to lug around this heavy book in my backpack all day and then struggle to read while eating, especially with the worry of getting it wet/dirty from food and drinks since I’m extremely clumsy. At first, I was just going to buy myself a Nook, since I had one when I was a kid and remembered really enjoying it. But I was watching KZitem videos on if I should get a Kindle or a Nook, and eventually discovered Kobo. I knew the note taking function was there, which is literally so amazing because I love to take notes in books while writing but always feel bad for writing in books when people wanna borrow them (I hate when people make comments about *my* comments. Like, they’re my own thoughts???) I wanted to learn more about the note taking function and see if it was worth it, and I’ll definitely be snatching this up to read and take notes in high school! Thank you so much for this!

Ok cowboy, good review but you didn’t answer my question from the last video so I will paste it here... It’s about importing writeable PDFs from other eReaders, specifically the Sony DPT....PLEASE answer it if you can or at least respond with something.. here it is... I have the Sony Digital Paper System DPT-S1, it’s a great note taker and I suppose the largest screen on the market (13.3”). I bought the original Remarkable 1 and tried to transfer all my notes from the DPT-S1 to the Remarkable, but they didn’t format properly. Apparently there are different formats of writeable PDFs and each tablet can use a different one and not support others. Now I want to get the KOBO Elipsa cause it will convert my handwritten notes to text, but I still want to transfer all my Sony DPT-S1 handwritten notes to the Elipsa as well either to just view them but also to possibly convert them to text as well...do you know if the Elipsa will properly support PDFs from my Sony device. (Or any other note taking devices) You guys must have both devices, can you check this out for me ? I would really appreciate it, thanks
@daryl4d
3 жыл бұрын
Oops... when I said notes from the Sony didn’t format properly tp the Remarkable 1 due to there being different PDF formats.I may have mis-spoke. I meant to say that the template from the Sony looked awkward on the remarkable. I suppose all eReaders use the same PDF format but use different templates that can look weird when transferring the note from one ereader to the next. I’d still like to know if I can transfer my Sony notes into the Elipsa’s advanced note function and then convert the handwriting to text. Anyone?
