Man I wish I was in the air like you! Hopefully someday! I'll be very upset if I die before I get my pilot ticket! Great video, take care!!

You're reading it correct, it is not a fast bird, slow and steady :)

Shouldn’t you run 5,800 for 5min max? Take off full power

Correct, in this video you’ll never see it even hit 5,800rpm. I have my prop pitched to give me ~5,500rpm max at WOT. That’s where this engine spends the majority of its time, you can zoom in to see that on the tach, I’m staying at around 5,300rpm. It can safely run at 5,500rpm all day long, and at the ~5,000’ this airport is at, and at consistent airport DA’s of 6,000’ and higher where I spend most of my time I need all the rpm and HP I can get. It performs much better around sea level (obviously), and climbs like a rocket when I’m solo. But this high altitude midwest flying with a passenger takes some performance drain on it. Do some testing with your own setup and prop to see what best works for you. This took me a few seasons to figure out what pitch I liked. Every plane and combo is different! Do what you feel is safe and comfortable, that’s the beauty of experimentals.

How much is a set up like that on the used market?

You can expect to pay 15-25k for a Rotax 912 powered Mark III depending on condition. If you don’t already, check barnstormers.com regularly for them. The 2 stroke variants are much cheaper, 5-10k typically from my experience over the past 5 years with the used market. To give you a realistic figure of what I’d price mine at in the future. (Which may happen this upcoming fall as I transition into a Vans), would be 22k for just the Kolb; or 29k with the 24’ enclosed trailer it lives in.

@@cheapcheeze I’ve been looking. The ones I’ve found are pretty cheap but have the 447 or 503. That 912 is what really gives it what it needs. :) I’m wanting to get my sport pilot next year and pretty much will need my own plane. The kolb is just a great looking plane to me. great vids too. I subscribed. Thanks again.

@@beaulong3270 sounds like a good plan! I did my private start to finish in a Citabria. I then transitioned myself on a calm day to the Kolb. If you got tail wheel control down pat, you’ll be fine with the Kolb, it’s such a gentle flying plane. 🤗

@@cheapcheeze which Vans? Would a mkiii be ok for a 600ft grass strip with no obstructions?
