You do such a great job with him! And he is stunning! I have been a professional groomer for 12 years and own a mobile grooming business. I use something called a recirculating bathing system. Not only does it allow you to portion out your shampoo and conditioner according to the ratios, it saves your back, hands and arms and a boatload on water. Most importantly, really gets down to the skin to deliver the cleansing you need. You can find DIY videos on youtube to make one that you put in the tub that's been filled up about 4". I hope it helps you get this unbelievably hard-job-in-a-salon-let-alone-home-tub! :), faster and more efficiently to save your back and money on shampoo. (I use Eqyss Mikro Tek on my clients on the van...I add activated charcoal and Dead Sea salt in it to help with even better whitening and odor control, but with your kiddo, and the cords holding the charcoal, it probably won't rinse out so well and he'd be grey). I also use a really cool, rubbery high tech towel on the van which dries a dog like you wouldn't believe in that first drying step you take in the video; they're flexible enough to fit in/around your hand like a lamb skin glove and they pull herculean amounts of water out with each press!! Pardon the unsolicited advice; you may have heard of these things already. I see it's been a couple of years, I bet his coat has come along beautifully. Happy grooming!

Please tell me more about the high tech towels! I appreciate your advice! This year I have come up with a much more efficient way to apply shampoo in much less time as now bot of my Komondors have longer hair.

I'll stick with shorter coated dogs lol I had a Chow a long while ago that was almost too much for me with the amount of brushing that was required to keep him from matting. Your dog is a lovely representation of his breed!

+GracieBooProductions, I bathe him 3-4 times a year max. Sometimes I have to do a "half-bath" where I clean his legs or face or private area. I trim around the feet, above the eyes, the face and I shave his privates. I let the rest grow. I have trimmed the ends of his cords once so he looks neat. It takes me 2-3 hours to wash him. Much much longer to dry. I live in the midwest, so we have hot summers and cold winters. He loves the snow, cold tiles and air conditioning. I don't take him for walks if it is above 80F.

How come you decided to get a Komondor and keep him corded? I mean he's beautiful but it seems like so much work!
@fuzzypupproduction5532
8 жыл бұрын
Not only is the Komondor an excellent guard dog, but also a wonderful family dog. The cords are natural to the breed and protect them from the elements. It insulates against both heat and cold, efficiently regulating their body temperature. Considering he never has to be brushed and cords can be split at my own leisure, and baths only occur every 6 months now, its really not too much work once one gets used to it.
@42lacey
8 жыл бұрын
for me. honestly cording komondors is wayyy easier than keeping them brushed out. that's a big uphill battle and eventually you'd have to shave em back down real short. I gave up and went for the dreadlocks because if I was going to have a komondor I'd rather it actually look like one.
@tessangsklover7852

If you get a dog like the Komodor it is a good idea to get information about the dog first ! If you get any dog you should do that. If you thinking about cut of the fur when you get a longhaired dog you probebly should get a dog with short hair ! Or a soft longhaired toydog !

And it took me at least two hours to bathe, dry, and groom my standard poodle--which was every 6 weeks minimum vs every 6 month baths with the komondor. My koms shake off most of the dirt. They can turn to solid muddy mess in the rain, but after they dry, the dirt shakes loose. That doesn't turn them bright white like a proper bath, but it's still low maintenance.
