Kozlu is a town in the western part of the Black Sea Region, in the province of Zonguldak in Turkey. Its distance from the city center is 5 km. It is surrounded by the Black Sea in the north, Zonguldak in the east, and Ereğli in the west and south.
Previously, in 1941, Zonguldak was a district of the Central District, but on 6 December 2012 it became a district. Its area is 177 km2 and its population in 2022 is approximately 50,000.
All quarters of the district, whose center was established at sea level, are located in mountainous areas. Drawing attention with its natural beauties, clean air and cultural values, Kozlu is a district with high development potential. Kozlu, which is intertwined with nature, is one of the places that should be seen and visited in our country.
Kozlu district is under the influence of the mild Black Sea climate. There is no dry season in Kozlu, where all seasons are rainy and warm. The most precipitation is seen in autumn and winter seasons, there is no significant temperature difference between seasons and day and night in the district. As you go from the sea to the interior, the climate gets a little harsher. There is no significant variation in annual average temperatures across the district. In terms of sunny days, the tourist season covers the 3-month period between the end of May and the end of August. The most rainy months in Kozlu are December and January. As the precipitation goes from the coasts to the interior, it both decreases and shows the feature of turning from rain to snow.
Ilıksu location, Değirmenağzı bay and waterfalls, coastal road constitute important geographical structure and touristic areas. on the coastline; At the lower part of the police house, there are public recreation and sports facilities, the Beach, Fishermen's Shelters, Aqua Park, Amusement Park, Restaurants, Astroturf Field, City Stadium, Değirmenağzı and Ilıksu resting facility and beaches.
There are 9 neighborhoods connected to Kozlu Center in the district. There are 23 villages including Merkez District, Fatih District, Güney District, Taşbaca District, 19 Mayıs District, İhsaniye District, Kılıç District, Yahma District and Esenköy District.
Many public institutions and organizations and many campuses of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University are located in Kozlu.
The main source of income in business life in the district is hard coal management; A large proportion of the people earn their living by mining, on the other hand, fishing, agricultural activities in the surrounding villages and adjacent areas, construction sector works, small-scale industry and craftsmanship can be counted as a source of livelihood. The general population consists of middle-income people.
Previously, until the end of 1848, the district was a reed and wooded area stretching along the stream, within the boundaries of Örencik Village. The systematic operation of the coal mines, which is the main source of income of the district, started in 1851. Especially the development of coal management was provided in the Republican Period, this development stopped as of the beginning of the 1980s, and in the following periods, mining management moved away from profitability for various reasons.
In the social activity areas in the district, our people have fun in the summer months at the social facilities of the Special Provincial Administration operated by the Kozlu Municipality in the Esenköy-Ilıksu location, at the natural beaches in the Öküşne and Değirmenağzı bays, improved by the efforts of the Kozlu Municipality, and at the facilities built within the scope of the Kozlu Beach, entertainment and fair area development project.
In the district; Within the İbn-i Sina Campus of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, there are Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Zonguldak School of Health, Ahmet Erdoğan Vocational School of Health Services, Institute of Health Units and Fig Harman Campus (State Conservatory and School of Foreign Languages). There is a Public Library in the district and services to benefit from periodicals and computer-internet services are provided free of charge to all segments of the public. There are a total of 9839 books and 56 periodicals in the district library, of which 4240 are adult books and 5599 children's books.
There are 83 mosques and masjids affiliated to the District Mufti.
In the district, there is 1 synthetic turf field for 4000 people, 1 tennis court and youth center, a soil field in the village of siciler and a water sports center. There are 4 sports clubs operating in various branches in Kozlu. There are 1 super amateur and 2 first amateur football teams.
The Kozlu Folklore Association, which operates within the Kozlu Municipality, has achieved national and international success by exhibiting our local and Turkey-wide folk dances.
