I've been watching Kristian for years in ITU and knew he was different right from the start. And what he has proven in race results in the last couple of years has been amazing - ITU Worlds, Olympic Gold, IM World Champ....! I wish I had Olav training me! Good luck tomorrow, Kristian. We will be watching!!

There is not a single superstitious/religious bone in my body. That said, Kona has been extraordinarily/surprisingly hard on athletes. The list of world champions (other distances) failing there is long. (External influences): the conditions, pressure-to-perform and race dynamics have made it a unique race. It seems from history that personal experience counts for much. If Blu (or any of the other "youngsters") smash race day, it will really mean "a new era"; the first since Mark & Dave days. All the other improvements can be linked with technology improvements. Now its about seeing if the human performance optimization is sizable enough as to see it clearly in the numbers. I hope for it, but I'm skeptical.

@@TrommAdrian why? the record was broken by several other guys as well. It could just be the weather. If the weather was bad and the times slow, then we would not have this discussion. To take 12nin off - over 7:40 hours - which is a small margin - on a windless day - how to know if the performance is better?

FACT check issues. In addition to KONA not being the birthplace of Ironman - A glider is not the most aerodynamic thing made by man. Aerodynamics of a given object depends on the speed which it will be travelling. A glider me be most aero at one speed - but a fighter jet is more aero at a faster speed etc. FACTS are important!
