As Malaysian, I think we make our mistake by not thinking to improve our public transport for 10 years span (between 2003 to 2013). Until now some dense area still not fully covered by lrt/mrt. That’s how we trap into heavy traffic jam now in year 2022. Hope government can expedite any solution for this.
@alphestanley7194

We actually had a lot of ideas most notably a new BRT system which was introduced in 2014 and was set to complete in 2 years time. However, this project was ultimately scrapped for reasons we’re still unsure of. Malaysians have been actively trying to improve and find solutions but our government sadly has the final say

One might argue that Kuala Lumpur is still lacking in its metro system. They are not wrong. But, considering that Klang valley or Greater KL has less than 10 million populations, this is quite an achievement. The biggest weakness of KL metro system is probably interconnectivity and last-mile connection.

KL cannot rely on MRT alone. Only KL city centre is suitable for MRT, whereas outside city centre should be using Rapid Bus System (RBS) to connect to the city centre MRT because of the low housing density outside city centre in KL. Cost, building time and running cost of MRT is much much higher than buses, so outside city centre is not suitable for MRT because KL is not like Singapore, Hongkong, Beijing Shanghai where majority were living in high rise building where every km of MRT can serve 10 times more passengers than KL and the cost of serving number of people is ten times lower than in KL. That's the reason why no MRT is making money and 90%of KL people still prefer to drive to work. An exclusive bus lane must be draw out/build in every major road to speed up the bus transportation and to further cut down the road for single driver car to work. A big raise in city centre parking fees plus a looped mini bus in every housing area must be setup to bring people from their home to the main road is also a must in order to make the whole system work. Most importantly, a single transportation card can be use on minibus, buses and MRT will make it so convenient for all passengers and a well established complete system will make 70-80% of ordinary office staff abandoned driving to work.

KTM should be privatize so that the operation could be run smoothly and people dont have to wait 30 minutes for a train. KTM brings the bulk of passenger from KL suburbs, they are the key to reducing traffics in KL. Also, I would suggest that the government pay more attention towards our bus system. Currently you have to wait like 40 minutes in such hot conditions. Increase the amount of busses available so that waiting time could be shorten to just 5-10 minutes. I read before that in Rio De Janeiro, Colombia they had such an efficient Bus network that everyday they drive 4 million passengers, I doubted Malaysians uses the bus a lot. Malaysian buses these days are also very clean and it is much2 more cheaper to build a massive bus network vs a metro system.
@junirenjana
2 жыл бұрын
I think it's less a matter of whether they are privatized or not, Jakarta's KRL is operated by a subsidiary of the Indonesian state railway company but it's much more efficient compared to KTM Komuter, running up to 5-minute headway during peak hours, servicing ~1 million daily passengers before the pandemic (compared to KTM's ~85,000 in 2018). Also, KRL may serve as an example for change: prior to service reforms in early 2010s, it used to get bad rep for its decrepit rolling stocks, roof riders, and generally chaotic vibes. But ridership had actually tripled between 2011 and 2019, and this was achieved by simply improving upon existing infrastructure and service. There is this one Quora answer illustrating the changes if you want to read more on that btw: www.quora.com/One-decade-ago-Indonesian-and-Pakistani-railways-were-of-equal-quality-but-why-today-the-quality-of-Indonesian-railways-is-very-far-ahead-of-Pakistani I personally think that KL transit development focuses too much on visible, big construction projects but ignores how little optimization in services can actually make a huge difference (not to mention that it's most likely cheaper than constructing wholly new infrastructure). Case in point: Sunway BRT, which is way too overbuilt with all the elevated stations but with less-than-mediocre service, resulting in one of the lowest BRT ridership in the world (~16,000 daily). Transjakarta, by contrast, utilize existing roads by reducing lanes for private vehicles and designate them for buses. The BRT network is extensive (the longest in the world, in fact) but it's reach is now expanded even more with the integration of free-of-charge feeder services into the system.

Hello. Very good work, hope you'll continue on most of the rapidly expanding metros throughout Asia. Nevertheless, 2 advises : - Firstly you may do it on an "open street map" or "google earth view" so that we can compare the network to the built-up area, - Secondly, be careful with the crossing lines and try to avoid then when drawing as much as possible, it's a bit messy in the very center when there are many. Anyway, very good job :)

to just small info. the ktm like aren't originally called ktm seremban or ktm port klang. they were called ktm komuter. ktm is just a company named kereta api tanah melayu berhad (malay peninsula train company or can simply say that it is ktmb), so it is some difference between ktm and ktm komuter. in Malay peninsula, there are other railways operated by ktm, but those lines in kl are called ktm komuter for officials. besides that, the lrt Ampang and sri petaling lines were one lines when they had been built at the ninetees. it is called STAR LRT which is driven by humans (even today lol), and it uses old railway tracks built by Britain. the kelana jaya lrt was called PUTRA LRT before and the difference between it and STAR LRT is this lrt uses an automatic system and no drivers.

The title of this video is misleading. Only Line 9 (MRT) could be considered as a true Metro line, the rests are either commuter lines (KTM and ERL) or Light Rail (LRT). You could include all three LRT lines because they're more likely to be a Pre-Metro than a true light rail line but including KTM and ERL lines is really a bit of a stretch. For comparison, it's like including London Overground and DLR lines in the London Underground network or Long Island Railroad with New York Subway network.

So what should I use instead? If I use public transit it's weird since I didn't include bus. If I use rail transit it is also weird cause I didn't include intercity rail network. 🤔
