I got a mini-z a couple weeks ago and was disappointed by the speed. I didn't realize that there were two modes. I can't wait to get home and try it in normal mode. Can you link the different tires that you show in the video please. Thanks!
AWD has it's place. A lot of people use it for drifting. The AWD has a weak plastic differential and should be upgraded to a ball diff that can slip a little. The dog bones are also weak. The chassis plastic is weak. There is a lot of power loss from the drivetrain so you need a hotter motor to keep up with the 2wd. The AAA batteries are stacked on onside and it doesn't have the low CG that the 2wd does. The AWD does have great grip on the RCP track and can put down some decent laptimes.

It's hard to pin down a specific set of tires. The softer the better for grip but you also need to prep the surface by sweeping and mopping. Even then you can't get everything.

I was looking to pick one of these up. I used to have the silver Mercedes lemans car. I was busy with other hobbies and never took it out of the box. I was thinking about picking up another but couldn't decide between rear wheel or all wheel drive. I don't have a track that I know of near me. I'm trying to figure out which one would be best as far as just messing around with. I won't be racing to feel like I said to my knowledge no track within driving distance. Also wanted to know as either one rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive better for growth meaning which one has the most hop-ups and won't be out of date as far as new models in the near future. If that makes sense I just don't want it to be outdated in 6 months

Nice. I'm looking to build a track about 7m x 4m. What is the difference in handling between mm and rm models. Is there any reason to go for one over the other? Also what were the tyre part numbers for those?
@byebyeracing4277
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Darren. That will be a nice sized track. The handling difference in a nutshell is the RM has the motor rear mounted and understeer is more apparent around corners on throttle. The MM has the motor mid mounted which gives you more steering but makes the chassis dart a bit more. Most racers prefer the MM for racing because of the sharper steering and longer wheel base which adds more stability overall. The front tires are MZW39-30 MINI-Z Low Height Slick Tire 30deg. www.kyoshoamerica.com/MZW39-30-MINI-Z-Low-Height-Slick-Tire-30deg4pcs_p_24989.html The rear tires are MZW17-20 Wide Tire Set (20°) www.kyoshoamerica.com/MZW17-20-Wide-Tire-Set-20_p_4143.html

Did you do anything to the differential? Since they are not locked differential my car slips every way around because one tire has more power. I’m also just using it on my kitchen floor and maybe too dusty for the tires? Compared to your tracks grip . Specifically in left turns. But all in all how was your experience with the differential?
@byebyeracing4277
2 жыл бұрын
The diff in this video was dry. Adding a heavy grease will lock it up somewhat but that may not be the solution. At this scale the power easily overcomes grip on slick surfaces. you could run a ball differential and adjust it so that it slips slightly. However, even with the stickiest tires you're not going to achieve the grip levels you would where both surfaces are rubber.

I'll check. My suggestion is to compromise between full suspension throw and ride height. If you find that the tires are rubbing you can true the tires down, add or remove spacer on the front suspension or you can purchase a front nose plate that uses spacers like the PN aluminum and carbon set.

Can these be upgraded to a lipo battery pack? I had a old epoch indoor racer that had tiny nicad batteries. A 1s 500mah lipo pack made a huge difference in runtime and top speed. The miniz looks like it has plenty of runtime, but would a lipo pack give higher current and speed?

Hey Scott. Kyosho makes LiFe battery packs. You could convert to a PN chassis and run their lipos. There is also the option of AAA lithium batteries with dummy cells though it's not as reliable as the latter. All choices will provide higher current and speed.

Hey don't know if I'll get a reply to this but was wondering if it's a good idea to race awd instead of a rwd? I have a home made smooth cement rc track in my backyard and use it for drifting it's in no way like a in door polished floor but the cement is smooth with no sort of texture but it has its weather beat now, but basically would I be able to drive a rwd with very grippy tires on it without spinning out so much or should I try awd with grippy tires ?
@byebyeracing4277
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Branden, given your conditions the AWD will bring the most drivability. RWD will work but you will need to try different tires for your surface. On concrete sometimes a harder tire will have more consistency than a really soft tire because a harder tire will not pick up dirt and dust and much as a softer tire. You will want to compensate for power oversteer...so you will need need to test different tires front and rear to find the balance. Good luck!
