Back in the day I used to work part time in a hobby store and it was around that time where the owner just built a Turbo Ultima to sale. He would build one kit and then sell the others in kit form. I absolutely loved the look of the turbo and I’d stare at it every time I walked past it. I remember the day so clearly when I finally scraped up enough money to buy it, i could hardly contain myself as I walked to the store to bring it home. As I walked into the store I already knew that the kits were all sold out and the only one left was the built one so I knew I was running out of time. As soon as I walked in the boss looked at me and said “ I’m sorry “ and I looked on the shelf and sure enough it was gone. Back then I didn’t understand about ordering or restocking so I thought once they were gone, then they were gone. I’ve had plenty of of other kits buggies and rare cars but the Kyosho Turbo Ultima has always been in the back of my mind. Fantastic video 👍👍

Sorry for the slow reply. Thanks for taking the time to tell your story, it was great even though it turned out to be a sad story. Wow, I thought the boss might have held the built one for you since he knew you wanted it!😭 You didn't say but I really hope you finally got your Turbo Ultima when new stocks came. I know exactly how you felt looking at them in the store. I felt the same when I'd go into hobby stores to buy parts, always looking at the new kits and dreaming/drooling. Same thing with the catalogues! I had the original Ultima, but it was built from parts as I could never save the money to buy the kit. When the Turbo came out, I was instantly in love. So it was like "here we go again!" 😂 I just ended up just using a lot of Turbo parts on my original and I was happy with that. Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 🙂👍 Hopefully Kyosho will Re-release the Turbo Ultima. 🤞

I agree mate, the Turbo would have to be my favourite Ultima, closely followed by the Pro... I think, Haha I also can't decide between them! I've heard a few people weren't too impressed with the platinum shocks. These ones feel OK but I did leave some air in them (this is a shelfer anyway), I found they tend to be far too stiff when full of oil. Maybe they need super light oil?! Thanks mate! 👍

One is using Tamiya Paint Remover, the other is using Methoxy Propanol (Dowanol PM) which can be found on ebay. I used the Dowanol PM to strip the body for this Turbo Ultima. I prefer it as it doesn't seem to fog the body at all, whereas I found the Tamiya paint remover does fog the body. Some people use RC Nitro fuel to strip paint too, I never have any nitro on hand so I do it this way. I have to try to remember all of your tricks, so much knowledge👍, thanks for sharing it with us mate. Yeh the livery looks sensational, it looks like it could be sponsored by Marlboro cigarettes. I like the finish on the rims, like a satin chrome, I looked on ebay for a 1mm pen but expensive stuff!, I'll take a look in an art shop or news agency. Too much to say, I'm rambling 😂. Another great video Mick, thanks mate👌🍻🦘🇦🇺

Thanks mate! I was surprised (and happy) seeing how clean the body was after stripping it, made the job so much easier. I really shouldn't have needed to use the Shoe Goo on the wing but you gotta do what you gotta do... I'm now wondering if I can fill the whole sides of wings with Shoe Goo in the future so they don't break so easily. 🤔😂 Oh yeah, I love this livery. The colours, decal shapes, body design, the whole lot just works! 👌 Originally the decals are more orange, you may have noticed, but MCI print them red. I actually prefer the red. Haha yeah, I was thinking of Marlboro when I was doing the decals. 😂 The wheels are kinda tricky. They're satin and textured in the centres but have a smooth lip on the outside, which also isn't fully chrome. It's more like machined alloy... They're actually a real pain in the a***! lol Yeah the Molotow chrome isn't very cheap. For me it goes a long way though. Haha no worries mate. I do the same! lol Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it. 👍

Thanks Jacen! I love them both but I think the Turbo might be my fav too although I much prefer the Pro chassis, purely for the extra space for electrics. Overall I am happy with it, I'll get over the wing issues soon enough lol. Looking at it still takes me back to the 80's so it's done it's job for me. I was really worried I'd mess the wheels up and almost didn't touch them but I had a crack at it and they came out ok. The re-re Turbo should be pretty cool I think. I'm thinking Kyosho may re-re the Turbo and/or the Pro, even if they do re-re them while I'm building these I'll still have to get them. Can never have too many Ultima's! 😁 Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video. 👍

Thanks mate! The Molotow chrome goes though the airbrush nicely. I used it on the bumpers for my Subaru Brat a couple of years ago, turned out great. The only issue is that it takes forever to dry and isn't very hard wearing. These wheels are electroplated so they're quite chrome looking on the inside when new. I think if I'd not sped up the drying by using the oven, they would have been prefect. Oh well, they look OK, still better than using plane silver I think. Haha yeah, the Ulimas seem to be breeding. I'm happy it's finally done, it's been staring at me from the shelf for many years saying "do me next, do me next!" 😂👍

Haha yeah, it seems to always go that way for me too David. When I'd just finished collecting parts for the Tamiya Top Force Evolution replica, BANG! Tamiya brought out the EVO 😂. I've had a look at Penguin, in their pictures they look much the same as TBG. Me thinks one has copied the others moulding. I'm looking at Marwan RC now, Marwan has a full body/wing/decal set which looks very good. He even has the "Two Wheel Drive" decals included which are missing on the MCI decals. I forgot to mention that in my video but the "Two Wheel Drive" decals go on both sides of the wing at the top. It kind of looks weird without them. I used the Hooker Headers decals in place of those. 👍

G'day Mark, welcome aboard! Also welcome back to the RC hobby. Good stuff mate, you're gonna be real busy with all the re-releases, there's a lot of them out there. As far as stripping paint, I do it a couple of ways. My main go-to is Methoxy Propanol which can be bought on ebay. It's basically an industrial paint stripper. Some people use rc nitro fuel too. I also use Tamiya Paint Remover, or for small areas such as paint repairs I use Tamiya Polycarbonate Body Cleaner. I'll leave a couple of links below to older videos I've done about paint stripping. I used the Methoxy Propanol method for this Turbo Ultima body too, I just soaked the body for a few hours and wiped the paint off. 👍 Tamiya Paint Remover kzitem.info/news/bejne/qp1qsWd9rJ93fno Methoxy Propanol (Dowanol PM) kzitem.info/news/bejne/o3l9q4eah2pjlZw

You have shown 2 methods for stripping paint from a polycarbonate body... which is your preferred one?
@RCHobbyShed
2 жыл бұрын
G'day Brandon! I usually use the Methoxy Propanol method as it's cleaner and doesn't seem to fog the bodies at all. Sometimes the Methoxy Propanol does take all the paint off (without soaking it for days) so then I go for the Tamiya Paint remover to finish it off. A bonus of the Methoxy Propanol method is that the paint usually comes of in sheets and isn't a sticky mess as you normally get with other methods of tripping. So you can then strain the debris out of the Methoxy Propanol and use it again. I usually strain it and put it back in the bottle for another time. Hope this helps! 👍
