I've wanted to go to the CDC museum for a couple years. Good to know it's interesting. I got the MediaLab micro simulator thing. It's pretty well set up where you have to describe the gram stain morphology and the colony morphology, then pick what testing you would do next. It has flow charts available and a video explanation from experts once you're done. It has quite a few cases. I personally didn't find it very helpful. All the different case simulators are separate purchases (micro, WBC, urinalysis, etc. )and about $30 each for a year's access.

You should definitely go when you get the chance! Thanks for sharing your experience with the case simulator. I wonder if it would be helpful for online students that do not have an in person skills lab.

I am in a program for MLT right now and you remind me a lot of the director of my program! She is constructing a MLS program and getting clinical site approvals right now and by the time I finish this program it will be available which is very exciting. I think you'll be an amazing educator one day!

Wow that’s awesome! Also great that you’ll have the option to further your education. I would honestly love to go into teaching! There’s just very few programs where I live, so less opportunities.

Hey girl! I am taking medical bacteriology this semester, and let me tell you it is a struggle. Do you have any recommendations on how best to study for it? especially where I can find good study materials to do with ID of the different GP and GN (cocci and bacilli) bacteria and agar plate morphology identification? its such a pain. Makes hematology look supper easy.

Flow charts are your best friend! Once you figure out how to organize the information, it gets easier. I’d say use whatever book/ppt you have in class but spend time making your own flow charts so you can understand the info. CDC has good flow charts for examples, just search “CDC Flow chart” and add to your search a specific classification (gpc, gnb, gpb, etc). CDC website is very helpful while you study each organism and Wordsology.org might be helpful as you review for exams.
