I absolutely love your videos. Although I live over 3 hours away I will definitely make the journey to buy my Brompton from you in person

My life is now complete. I now know (a) what a lace-up saddle is and (b) how to lace it.

I own two Brooks B-17 narrow carved saddles, for my road and gravel bikes, and I have them laced the whole length, all holes. In my opinion, in the long run, a firm saddle is always more comfortable, and a thorough lacing helps to keep its original shape for many years. It is only where your buttocks rest on the saddle that you want it to give in and conform to your anatomy, but I believe it’s not in the rider’s interest to let the saddle flare out like a sausage and become shapeless and spongy, especially if you are putting in a lot of miles on it.

The Brookes B17 has been in production for 134 years so it has quite a dedicated following. I have had several on various bikes and found them to be generally quite comfortable. I prefer the brown/tan colours to the black.

When I bought my Superlight Brompton in 2019, it came with a Standard saddle and I used it for years. I also have a printed saddle, but for low weight reasons (my bike is now below 9 kilo With mudguards, as a Rainy Dane), I use a slighthly padded carbon Selle Italia saddle, which isn't very comfortable, I admit!

Nice! More can we quickly divide into tribes by which colour is more aero, whether cross or straight lacing provides the best climbing performance… Seriously, though, will it make a difference if it’s laced further to the front or back, looser/tighter? I’m genuinely curious.

The middle are the ones that Brooks recommend lacing. So have just taken their experience on it, they have been doing my this for a few years 😀 Thanks for watching.

Doesn't the lacing stop you from moving the saddle backwards or forwards on the seat post ?

I am curious why the focus seems to be on lacing aesthetics rather than the quality and comfort of the saddle. One would think the latter is more important.

Thanks for the comment Thanks for the comment The question we kept getting asked was about how to lace and why it had the extra laces - that’s what we try and answer There is a lot of info about the B17 - the laced version should add comfort by providing the cutout but saddle comfort is so subjective The quality is as you would expect with a brooks handmade saddle

do you guys have any tips on making sure the laces don't rub on the pentaclip? my original laces broke from this and the replacement ones i put on after flipping it into the upper position seem headed for the same fate

.... Leather Brooks look classy... but then again I think of cleaning and care, water avoiding... and obviously also lacing??!!... I might go for the plastic/ lightweight one or stay on the Brompton generic one...

Thanks for watching! We do have customers that absolutely love the leather ones and they seem to last well. But Brooks also do a C17 carved that’s synthetic

What’s the point of the other holes if they’re not laced, maybe bring a range of charms that can be hung from them , obviously give the charms names and create the guardians of the Brompton’s , obviously to start off the variety of names = sitting pretty, charmed life , too many holes , life on the move , life’s an arse , take a seat , laced for life , you have a start with the list , probably you have a (Whole ) lot more you can add , take care charming soul = me.

Now - that is a good question - but we like your idea - maybe it's for a future collaboration with Pandora so all the charms can be hung off of the saddle ;-) They could be for decoration (like the holes stamped in some shoes) or to allow extra lacing if needed Thanks for watching again (and the great response!)
