Lando Norris hints at Checo Pérez and Red Bull: “It's better to have two drivers than one”
--------------
The Canadian Grand Prix turned out to be a disaster for Checo Perez, who failed to make it out of Q1 in qualifying on Saturday and abandoned the race on Sunday after hitting a wall. McLaren's Lando Norris, on the other hand, had an excellent performance, staying in the top places and finishing second behind Max Verstappen. Taking advantage of this situation, Norris, known to be one of Perez's biggest critics, dropped a hint at the post-race press conference.
When asked about the favorite teams to win the constructors' title, Norris surprised everyone by excluding Red Bull from the conversation, despite its dominance in the championship. "At the moment, I think the fight for the constructors' title is between Ferrari and us. In McLaren we have two drivers who are up there, making no mistakes and getting pretty much everything out of the car every weekend,” Norris commented.
This comment was clearly a dig at Checo Perez, insinuating that Red Bull only has one strong driver, Max Verstappen, compared to other strong teams that have two competitive drivers. Norris stressed that having two high-performing drivers is crucial to success in the constructors' championship. "It's rare that there aren't many other teams on the grid that have something like that.
So, for us, it depends more on what we can do against Ferrari. At the end of the day, I think two will always be better than one, as in Max's case,” Norris added.
Red Bull currently leads the constructors' championship with 301 points after the first nine races of the season. Ferrari and McLaren are some distance behind with 252 and 212 points respectively. Norris' comment reflects the increasing tensions and fierce competition in Formula 1, highlighting the importance of having a consistent and competitive driver pairing to ensure championship success.
