I’m seriously thinking of purchasing one of these and listened to both while watching the video and liked the Rosewood a little better. Then I closed my eyes and the Mahogany sounded a little more alive. In the end, I think it’s the Rosewood for me, more of an all around delicate voice. And you really can’t stray from the beauty of Rosewood. I saw another video comparing the D-40R to the Martin D-28. The Martin MAY have sounded a LITTLE better, but the Martins have a lot of plastic, where these Larivees have bone. These Larivees are in the $1600 range vs. the Martins are in the $3000 range. Two very nice guys and beautiful playing. The leather couch and matching brick added a calm and relaxing atmosphere to your demonstration. Thanks for your time!

Wow. Very balanced string tones. Minimal differences but for that capo finger style as noted by Stefan. The rosewood does have piano like tones.

Wow. I've been looking for a good deal on a D-03R or D-40R, but I think i'm sold on the Mahogany.

I prefer the rosewood. It sounded less stiff to me for a new guitar.

It's a really good comparison between majogany and rosewood in general. Rosewood sounds more alive but can get buzzy in a hurry but mahogany is muddier with less articulation but has a great round tone. What's preferred comes down your playing style.

After being a musician of over 30 years I have played hundreds of different guitars. So many makes and models. I am exceptionally unimpressed with the price tag of this acoustic and the sound that it produces. A Yamaha LL16 is nearly half the price and to me sounds twice as good.

Wow that's harsh. These guitars are generally known to produce great sounds and I've heard great examples on youtube. However these two don't seem to sound as good as the others for some reason, maybe because they're too young or maybe the sound capture wasn't great (did seem to be though) or maybe they were simply two duds. I wouldn't say they sound bad though, they lack a little depth and refinement and are a tad harsh in the high end IMO.
