@JazzcatSings Larry recorded under 2 names for various reasons. First, he didn't wanna be known as the "Custer" especially after messing up with "Please Mr. Geronimo". It an unknown positivlty true rumor that he and Boris Pickett was the same person, but up until now, has been some gig secret and I don't know why. As for the Cryptikers, those were the Pacemakers from Gerry and the Dakotas prior to changing their name to the Peacemakers.

Don't know why you can't admit you are wrong about the name of the tune. Sheesh. Era records lists it as: RETURN OF MR. CUSTER/RUNNING THROUGH THE FORREST - ERA 3139 Larry Verne is my father.

@hollywoodwasp You've got it all wrong... or perhaps you are attempting a wee bit of a sarcastic joke. First off my dad had no control over what Era wanted him to do. Second, he only had two tunes that charted and both of them were long before this one came out.

@JazzcatSings The only 2 songs I remember by Larry was "Please Mr. Custer" and "The Monster Mash". This song would have done very well had there not been the Injun attacks on record stores, hateful smoke signals and some unsubstantiated reports of scalping occurring throughout the Southwest. Wait, I may be thinking of the Dallas Mavericks NBA Championship ticket scalpers. Whatever, I will take further action on your report. If u need any further info, please refer to case # 43-69779362-s4511

He didn't know the right word. It's kola (accent on the last syllable) which means friend in Lakota.

@ttstango2 You forgot the best part.....it's fun. I wish I could grab those little cock roaches in the United Nations by their throats and make them listen to this stuff all day through their headphones. World Peace would break out!

I had no idea Larry Verne recorded a follow-up to 'Please, Mr. Custer'. I love it! I just discovered that Larry Verne recorded several novelty records for ERA RECORDS. There's also one called 'Mr. Livingston' (as in Stanley and Livingston). 'Mr. Livingston' is also on YT. ERA RECORDS folded years ago. I have no idea of what became of their master recordings.

I remember when it first came out in'60......I ponder to wonder yrs later...a 'what have been' scenario had the anti-war movement ever got a hold of this and blasted these sounds at the D.C. marches, right at the White House......jn

That was not the Pacemakers with Larry Verne. They probably backed up Charlie Drake on the British cover of Mr Custer. Bobby Pickett was born in Somervill, Mass. in 1938. Larry Verne was born in Minneapolis in 1936. Bobby died in 2007 from leukemia and as far as I know Larry is still kicking around.
