How long do you usually give a book before deciding to finish it or not?
@natcommon
6 жыл бұрын
BookswithEmilyFox it varies. Some books I read one chapter and stop and some I try really hard to read it but stop 40% through. I feel like it’s not a problem because I know what I like. But I do give second chances because sometimes it’s my mood.

normally 30 pages, though some books are really crappy/boring i stopped around 10 pages. i don't see the point of suffering through 400 pages just to get to the awesome 100 pages in the end. ugh! there are way too many good books out there. i'm not one to eat a bad topping of a dish just to get to the good part underneath. i'd rather just pick another dish entirely.

Hey Em ! Good to have you back on KZitem ! We missed you ! To answer the question it depends how hard I thought I would love the book when I got it ... Lately I read a book I thought I would not finish because it was too slow, a bit boring but I kept going and after reading 100 pages it was more interesting and I finished it ! I would love to see other videos like this one 😊 Kisses from Bordeaux in France !

Love this idea! I don't keep a physical TBR of more than 2 books at a time (I keep a massive goodreads TBR) but I do get a bunch of books from the library sometimes just to see if I actually want to read them or not. I give them a fair shot (maybe 3 chapters?) but I'm happy to return them and delete them from my TBR list.

Please make this a regular type of video and you did the right thing. What's the point of keeping books that you don't love save the space for awesome ones! And perhaps switch up your genres. I am trying to move outside of my comfort zone. I am reading one that is part Historical fiction part dramatic personal story and its awesome its just a slower read. Been slumpish and I am starting to get on a roll again.

Reviews of less hyped books are great, anything away from the most commented on Booktube is something to look forward to. If it would be me I would keep all the books, only not the contemporary. I almost never read this genre, but read most of all Sci-fi, fantasy, dystopia and YA I can get my hands on.

Hey Emily. How are you? I do like reading or listening to the first chapter of each book to see if it will grab you. I do that every time I move on to a new book after I finished with my last one. The covers of those books did not seem like they were eye catching. I hope that you find other books that you like better. I am currently reading the autobiography Mary Poppins She Wrote the Life of P. L. Traverse by Valerie Lawson, which has been a fascinating listen. Julie

The Walking Land is actually considered just regular fantasy. I read it last year and gave it 3 stars. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t very good. Pretty slow pacing. I don’t remember there being an annoying romance or to be honest a romance at all but I’m sure it’s there. It’s just an unremarkable book.

I read both Sandcastle Empire and New World Rising, and I don't think you would like them at all. That "Adam is Schizophrenic" attention grabber just makes me cringe...I know authors don't write their own synopsis but a book about mental health should know to use HAS instead of IS. It's so problematic to completely define someone by their mental illness in that way...
