Nacho being forced by Hector to take action against Krazy 8 for being 'light'. Hector who of course we know is a nasty piece of work doesn't even acknowledge Krazy 8. Rebecca feels totally used by Jimmy as he will not help Chuck, and she tells him 'Chuck was right about you all along'. Kim trying to explain to Jimmy how can he pay for half of the law office with no income. He goes into pure salesman mode trying to flog his commercial airtime. Sound Guy, Camera Guy and Make Up Girl are already to go., and Jimmy making an advert to sell his advert time. A bit of a Mexican standoff with Nacho and Victor over the amounts for Hector, Fring reluctantly agrees to six. When Jimmy shows Kim the advert she asks him about Saul Goodman, 'it's all good man', and we have the birth of one of the greatest character names ever in TV. Another great episode. Well done Elie on getting the 7K subs, well deserved.

BCS is one of my all-time favorite shows, and rewatching through your eyes has been very entertaining. I love your appreciation for this exceptional show. Even within this grand ensemble, it is easy to see the shining star who is Michael Mando as Nacho. Hopefully, we'll see much more of him in the future.

As a professional tailor who has worked in car upholstery I gotta say the only gripe I have with the opening scene is WHERE the needle punctured Nacho. I've sewn through my fingers on an industrial machine before so it definitely can happen, and those things WILL go all the way through flesh, but the way you need to position your hands to guide fabric Nacho's hands are positioned all wrong! Hands are always turned inwards. Needle shouldn't be anywhere NEAR your palm for any reason whatsoever, most likely danger zone is the digits anywhere down to the second finger joint at the lowest. Also there's so much seam allowance on that flat straight stitch I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out what on earth Nacho could possibly be sewing lmaoooo BCS gets the law stuff down to an insane level of detail, but I'm pretty used to clocking when actors don't know how to sew hahaha.

I've never understood why Rebecca wants Jimmy to help cheer up Chuck. It seems like a stupid suggestion. Chuck literally just lost a humiliating court case to Jimmy. So Jimmy is the last person that Chuck would want to see right now 😂 Surely Rebecca would want Jimmy to stay far away from Chuck atleast for a week or two lol
@KlFi15

Yeah, I find her reasoning odd. Not to mention that this cry for help comes from a character that is never to be seen again in the series. Like, practice what you preach at least Rebecca lol, you surely know Chuck as much as Jimmy does considering you were married for 20yrs or so...

The show def does something interesting with its character framing, almost flipping what you see vs who they are. like even tho Chuck is often visually presented as a “villain” (dark lighting, camera angles making him seem overpowering), and jimmy is framed in brighter, lighthearted humorous situations -if you try to see the situation objectively and it’s not as simple as that, in fact might be the opposite in a lot of ways

I watch both BB and BCS reactions and I find that I generally watch most BCS but not all BB. I know people say it is "slower" but I don't think that is the case; it is definitely more subdued, not as explosive, but the character development and tension and importance of small conversations is much more constant in BCS. Plus you being a law/film student adds an extra reason to watch every episode. (Also the rate at which you put out makes it easy to stay invested).

Elite, right now there are a lot of people reacting to Better Call Saul. But I find myself enjoying your reactions and looking forward to them the most. A big part of it is your generous rapid upload. It keeps me involved in your reactions. If I were watching this with my buddy, we wouldn’t be meeting once a week to see it. We would get together every day or every few days. So, when I watch a reaction with you, I’m watching with my buddy. The other attraction is your unbridled enthusiasm for this show. It is contagious. What fun is watching a reaction with someone who is not enjoying the show as much as you? I never have to worry about that when I click on an Elie Moses BCS reaction. I know it’s going to be fun. Keep it up! You are going to grow.

I agree that BCS > BB. Breaking bad certainly had more action in violence. It was also a bigger criminal in walter White. The problem is that breaking bad tried to create a good storyline built on the families. Unfortunately, the families were not that interesting to begin with. The show was really saved by brilliant acting and writing in the first couple of seasons, but it really needed seasons three and four to turn it into a cult classic. It really needed Mike, Gus, and the cartel to make it great. That's what's great about better call saul. First of all, jimmy and charles are outstanding characters. They are both brilliant and both flawed in so many ways. And they brought Mike in immediately rather than waiting for the end of season two like brake and bad. They also gave Mike and outstanding backstory. The show also gave us hector salamanca as well as Nacho Varga... 2 more great characters. This is why it's awesome out of the gate!!! Thanks for another great reaction.

@@gungho1284 I agree 100%. Breaking Bad started with "middle American families". So the story lines were fairly predictable. ("Is he cheating on me?" "There is no hot water." "We don't have any money." "Why are we eating veggie bacon?". etc.). BCS however started right out of the gate swinging. While you do have 2 solid professionals (Kim and Howard), the rest of the cast is at the very least unhinged (Charles & Jimmy), or straight up criminal. This makes for a much more unpredictable story line.

The Chuck vs Jimmy situation is a complex one... My take on it isn't the popular take (I know this from taking part in similar discussions before), but I'm tempted to take Chuck's side more than Jimmy's. I think there's 2 main reasons why people take Jimmy's side; 1) He's the main character, and we like him 2) Chuck seems like a jerk Obviously '1' is just a biased perspective, but what about '2'? Well, someone being a jerk, doesn't mean he can't be right. We need to see things from Chuck's perspective; Jimmy has ALWAYS been 'outside the law'. Sadly the "Show, don't tell" may be a culprit here, because we only see Jimmy working hard to make it as a lawyer... But Chuck has seen him ripping off people HIS ENTIRE LIFE. What Slippin' Jimmy did was not silly harmless pranks, it was fraud, it was criminal. His actions affected others, he may have cause some people serious financial troubles (which shows a profound lack of morals for Jimmy, something that's not talked about much in regard to his early life). He's not some bank robber taking insured money, he takes money from people, some who may not be able to afford it.. But that's the past, right? People can change? Well... Did he? Sure he's trying to make it as a lawyer, but what does he do? He orchestrate a stunt to grow in popularity (guy falling off the billboard), Chuck figured that one out. He sollicitate clients (Chuck couldn't prove it, but Jimmy had no legit explanation about how he got so many clients from next to no response to his mailers). He shoots commercials and airs them without telling his boss, lies/misleads to Kim about it, gets her in trouble, gets everyone in trouble... That's who Chuck doesn't want to work at his firm. It's not "Funny, quirky Jimmy who's just a little excentric"... It's "Criminal fraudster who never changed". Would you want him to work at you firm? I wouldn't. I know he would risk getting us all in trouble, both legal trouble, and PR trouble. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HE DID. And when they had a little feud (due to the Kim stuff), what did Jimmy do? More fraud, more falsifying documents, more crimes. He never ever changes. And while Chuck doesn't know that, well we know he doesn't change in the future either, working as the 'fixer/helper' guy for a drug empire, money laundering, advising murder every other episode (just from what we know, he advised killing Jesse, killing Hank, he helped killing Gus... ) All this to say: Jimmy was a horrible person/criminal in the past. He's a horrible person/criminal now. And he'll be a hundred times more of a horrible person/criminal in the future. So... Why is Chuck wrong? Because he's not nice to his brother? Well what if Jimmy wanted to be a doctor and Chuck knew that Jimmy liked to kill small animals for fun and had written scenarios about kill people as well? Should Chuck let Jimmy work at his hospital? What if Jimmy wanted to be a cop, and Chuck knew that Jimmy was a psychopath who couldn't control his violence, or a racist who wanted to be a cop to go after specific people? Should Chuck let Jimmy work at this police station? The answer to these two questions in my opinion are HELL NO, and I think most people would agree... But it's not different to the actual situation. If you don't want a murderer to work as a doctor, and you don't want a violent racist to work as a cop, then why do you want a criminal/fraudster to work as a lawyer? Because he's the main character and he's funny? That's not a good reason. Could Chuck have gone at this another way? Yeah, maybe... But he's not his father, it's not his job to raise Jimmy. IF Jimmy turned like that only AFTER Chuck acted against him, then I would say part of the blame may be on Chuck... But Jimmy was like that as a child too. He was always like that. So, all this to say... Chuck was right about Jimmy. And yes, Chuck can be a jerk. Doesn't mean he's not right. Just like Jimmy being friendly and funny doesn't mean he's not wrong.

Makes sense. Chuck should have hired Jimmy when he first past the bar. That was his watershed moment for lasting change. Even in season 1 we see that Jimmy is caring and still has potential for lasting change. Chuck just doesn't believe in him and Jimmy needs his respect and belief more than anything. Chuck had a good reason to not want Jimmy to join the firm by the time of sandpiper? But after he cleaned up his life in the mail room and buckled down and passed the bar? Should have hired him then. He was doing the right then. But you're right Jimmy should have done a ton of things differently and should have been disbarred for his chicanery.

I don't think Chuck's animosity toward Jimmy started with Jimmy's entry into the legal profession. It's a deep, lifelong rivalry. It's from the day Chuck's mother brought home a new baby. I've written this in a BCS episode before, but, oh, these two remind me so much of my older sisters. The older is controlled and controlling, cold and intolerant. The younger one is warm, loving, physical, jolly, not as smart maybe, but goes along to get along. The resentment is one way - from the older to the younger because the younger just doesn't do anything the "right" way. They have absolutely nothing in common and cannot communicate. It's sad, but sometimes you're just better off calling it quits with certain family relationships. And sometimes, it can feel not really sad at all, but more of a relief.

Charmingjinx9379: Your comment exemplifies why I personally prefer BCS to BB. It's written/played so well and in such a way that it can truly apply to one's life in a profound manner. Even if one doesn't necessarily have direct similarities or life path/events that are in line w/ what characters are going through (though many do, like yourself, and me actually...), you can plainly see how real this stuff is. I'd say that virtually all adults have issues in their lives at least somewhat closely related to what Jimmy, Chuck, and Kim go through in this show. Relationships/issues w/ their parents, siblings, job/career paths, self image issues, etc etc etc... I honestly don't know any other show that comes close to the depth of character that this show gives us. BB of course has amazing characters, but it's just not as "real." On some levels, it can be. But how many of us can say we've robbed a train of its methylamine but got a child shot in the process? LOL

@jackmars931

The hatred of Jimmy doesn't just stem from him being in the legal world. Chuck feels like his parents loved Jimmy more, and that he destroyed them with his chicanery. Chuck "saved" Jimmy and stuck him in the mail room to exert control over him, and when Jimmy tried to better himself Chuck blocked him at every opportunity. Jimmy is a lying con-man, but he tried to take care of Chuck out of legitimate brotherly love, and he looked up to him. Jimmy did try to be better, to change after the Chicago Sun Roof incident. Notice the ONLY incident of Slippin' Jimmy type behavior we see during the "mail room" years is at the behest of Chuck, to lie to Rebecca. When it suited him, Chuck was more than willing to encourage and participate in Jimmy's lies. Chuck always looked down on Jimmy, but enabled his bad behavior when it was something Chuck wanted. Ultimately, Chuck is a narcissist whose love is conditional on having control of Jimmy. Jimmy's love was unconditional, until he got kicked one too many times. Also, as far as views go, I think there are fewer BCS reactors than BB reactors - either people did a BB reaction and watched BCS on their own, didn't watch it at all, made it a Patreon exclusive, or just haven't gotten as far along in the BB universe.

After Rebecca asks Jimmy, “What’s your excuse?” you talk about the writing & character development and the personal interactions of the players. For me, that’s what elevates this show above all others. And in way, what sets it apart from Breaking Bad. BB is a fantastic show, and thank god for it. Because, of course: no BB = no BCS. The writing/character development and deeply complex (and real) personal relationships are jusy on another from BB, imo. In literary terms, as a simplistic differentiation between BB & BCS, I see/feel BB more as a high level Graphic Novel; whereas I see/feel BCS as a great Novel Novel. Shakespearean, basically. In my heart of hearts, and also in my mind, BCS truly that level. And that’s not at all meant as a slight toward BB. I know lots of folks take issue with that kinda analogy/comparison between the shows. I get that. And again, it’s admittedly a somewhat simplistic observation which could be written about and parsed further for years. But I’m not alone in this line of thinking. And it’s not important at all in relation to your awesome reaction vids and everyone’s enjoyment of them :) But what you got into when speaking of the writing/characters here after Rebecca asked that question of Jimmy got me to thinking. Plus, you'd mentioned your BCS vids performing better than the BB ones (as you say, though, likely recency bias...). And the last scene in this episode: One of my favorites for sure. Absolutely hilarious. When the ad ends, and they cut to Kim & Jimmy on the couch… Kim’s expression is just so perfect. And just like there’s a bunch of scenes/shots of Kim & Jimmy brushing their teeth, there’s lots of shots (oners?) of them sitting next to one another on couches/benches/tables/etc… Having them both in the same shot, sitting with one another and playing off each other is a pleasure I can’t quite find words for. And you mentioned this ad as the origin of the Saul Goodman name. That actually came much earlier. Early season one, back in Slippin’ Jimmy’s Chicago. Rock on...
