As a fan of the show, the Star Trek thing is a running joke and the fact that they shoe-horned the question into the trial is a giant inside joke, because now Tim has an official legal ruling on his side regarding this long-running argument between himself and Gregg (who is, by the way, a “guest” on Tim’s movie review show, despite being on nearly every episode, producing his own segments, and being the only one of the two who even watches the movies they review each week). A lot of the seemingly random humor from this trial is exponentially funnier to those with the proper context of the full show. It’d be like watching an Office episode in season 3. Still probably funny to a non-fan, but hilarious to those who know the show. So glad you’re reviewing this series, Tom.

@liampoulton-king7479

Yeah, that’s explicitly the case. On the other hand, Tim’s witnesses weren’t submitted to the court; I think that’s just part of the heightened reality of the comedy; the Judge is trying to give him extra lenience because he’s representing himself.
@chrome_disco
7 ай бұрын
@@liampoulton-king7479 I recommend the video "the Darrell Brooks show" - the commentator explains how the court gives him so much leniency and helpfulness because any hint of unfairness could be grounds for a mistrial, and their case is airtight anyway and Brooks was just digging his own grave with his incompetence. His self-representation in that whole trial is eerily similar to Tim's, including a moment where he makes frivolous objections during the testimony of a crying mother.

I love this series so far. Just FYI when you mention that Tim keeps introducing his witnesses like rockstars: that's another in-joke/reference to the full show. They sometimes have special guests and he welcomes them in the same way, so basically the joke is just another layer to show that Tim is a moron and he's acting like the court room is his internet show.

Tim and Gregg, since the early seasons of On Cinema, have gotten into heated debates about the setting of Star Trek 2. Some people believe Tim was so adamant about winning the argument that he intentionally killed those 20 teenagers just to get Gregg on a stand to prove him wrong in a court of law.

I am a Digital Forensics expert in Norway and have had numerous expert witness testimonies in court. What you say about payment for expert witness testimony is absolutely true. If you don't look at the fact that I am getting paid whilst doing my investigation and writing the reports anyway, just the appearance in court itself is billed anything from the equivalent of $500 to $10000 per hr, depending on the case and the material produced. Now, obviously, I don't get all that money in my own pocket - that goes straight to my employer, but someone has to pay that (usually the losing party, but where the state is one of the parties, they sometimes pay those kinds of bills anyway). And I do get a bonus per case I do. So yeah, you should absolutely pay expert witnesses to be in court. I didn't take a degree and multiple certifications for nothing :P

5:45 This is somethin that can and does come up for insurance cases that have to go to court too; eyewitnesses to the crash can be paid to testify and it may take such bcuz often those ppl normally work durin the time theyre testifyin and thus need to somehow be compensated for that, ideally. Now, not everyone is gonna ask for it and many wont even think about it; but its honestly not a bad idea to respond to someone who says they cant testify for you in an insurance case, by offerin them like $20 for their time so they dont take as big of a financial hit (and try to work their appearance date to be best for them). Notably, ive given such written testimony without bein paid in the past cuz i happened to watch it unfold rite in front of me and the dude that caused the crash was bein an utter dickweed with unwarranted confidence in his case. So after he left i walked up to the person and gave them my info and wrote down my testimony to completely refute the bullshit he was spinning. What had happened was there was a flashin yellow light walk signal that i had come up to and pressed the button, and then waited on the sidewallk for the cars that cudnt safely stop in time to continue thru before walking. This dude was less than 10 ft from the crosswalk (in a 35 mph zone) and slammed his brakes hard to come to an instant stop just a little bit over the crosswalk path. He then got rear ended by the person behind him who cud not be reasonably expected to safely stop that quickly. Like, the guy stopped so fast it was like he pulled his handbrake on. I continued on my journey after that bein thankful i wasnt hurt and no one seemed hurt, went across the street and returned my library books and when i came out i saw the two parties arguin in a parkin lot next to the signal and the dude was bein an aggressive intimidatin jerk who looked like he cud slap the other person at the drop of a hat with how angry and loud he was. And thats when i decided to stay and help them. I nvr did get called on for it but i suspect that my testimony still at least helped the two insurance companies to look at and agree that theres no pt acceptin the dudes false accounting of things.
