Good video, man. A lot of people seemingly don’t know about the LAX Flyaway buses. They’re convenient, and run 24/7, they come by every 30 minutes, I believe. Once you get from HellAX to Union Station, you’ll have access to all of SoCal. You can go to Santa Barbara, to Lancaster in the High Desert, San Luis Obispo, the Inland Empire (San Bernardino, Riverside, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Corona etc), all of Orange County, and San Diego, all via trains (Amtrak and Metrolink). The flyaway bus costs about $10 these days. But it beats dealing with the massive traffic jams in and around the airport and downtown. I’m glad you made this video, because it’ll show people visiting that there is an option out of the airport besides expensive taxis, shuttles and ride shares.

Oh and don’t forget that right across the street from Union Station is Olvera Street, the birthplace of LA. Do yourself a favor and go have some of the awesome tacos at the taco stand at the end of the plaza there. The restaurants too have awesome food, if you have time to kill.

Good informative video though the music was a little too loud. BTW, you are right about how you would be able to get to Union Station after the People Mover and new Metro station are built at LAX by taking the Green line and then the Blue line, but you'll also be able to take the new Crenshaw line to the Expo Line to get to Union Station too. New subscriber. :)

Glad to see your vlog and I really enjoyed watching it especially with the lively music background that pumps me up with excitement! I'll be traveling first time to LA California going Fresno in few weeks now. I already have the Amtrak ticket that I purchased online. My worry is how to pay the LAX Flyaway bus from LAX airport going to Union Station as I've learned cash payment is no longer accepted at this moment due to prevailing pandemic situation.

I liked the old piano they had there. The architecture is amazing, but seeing the homeless hanging around outside in the courtyard is a downer. The next time in LA, I want to ride the Amtrak to Kansas City. When I get back to the US from Asia, LA will be my entry point. I like to stay in Koreatown because I know where everything is. Typically before I leave, I go to H Mart in the mall across from the hotel. Then I´ll have food and drinks for the road, or rail.

From Cleveland, Ohio and will be heading to San Diego(leaving out of Columbus, OH) via LAX and the Pacific Surfliner on Monday December 30 to celebrate New Years. Have the time off of work this year so I figured that I would get out of the cold. I discovered and took FlyAway back in 2017 for our trip home from San Francisco. It was cheaper to fly into San Fran and take the train to LA and fly home from there. Got to fly and get a picture with the legendary Jim Brown. The motorcoach ride was smooth and quick from Union Station to LAX. It was later in the evening so we did not experience any traffic. Back then there were only a few KZitem videos that showed the FlyAway bus so it is nice to see that there are plenty more just two years later. Will be taking Flyaway from LAX to Union Station again on the 30th and back to LAX on January 1.

Wow thanks for this very useful video. In my previous trips to the U.S. (pre-covid times) via LAX, my cousin from Riverside would pick me up at the airport. I'm planning to go this November so this time I don't have to bother her picking me up. By the way, I also use SFO (San Francisco airport) as port of entry. It's very easy to go to and from SFO because of BART, and buses that take you north to downtown or south of SFO to the suburbs. Thanks again!

Walk out of LAX, take a cab to downtown Santa Monica (very close trip). Drop off your bags, walk the strand to Venice Beach and back, then take the LRT from Santa Monica to downtown LA and to Union Station. If this video doesn't tell you this, then get smart and enjoy Santa Monica first.

Some notes: If you're buying Amtrak tickets from LA to using any of the long distance trains (basically any train besides the Pacific Surfliner, the train he took), prices may increase dramatically the close you get to departure, so consider purchasing tickets online. While it's a bit more complex, if you're taking a train south you can save money by instead of taking FlyAway to Union Station, taking the C/Green Line shuttle to the LAX metro station, take the C /Green line to Norwalk, and then take The Norwalk transit #4 bus to Norwalk's Amtrak/Metrolink station. It will cost $2.25 (if my research is correct). Also, the train tickets may be cheaper from Norwalk. If you're taking the train to San Diego, don't want to pay as much money, and are ok waiting for a transfer in the middle of your trip, you may want to consider taking metrolink (LA's commuter rail system) to Oceanside transit center for $16.75 (or $10 on weekends) and transferring to the Coaster (San Diego's commuter train) for $6.50. Be sure to check the schedules of both trains in advance so you know how long you'd need to wait for the connection.

Every time I decide to drive into (or out of) LAX instead of taking public transportation, I end up regretting it. The public transit approach has a lot of room for improvement, but it still beats driving your car into the airport gridlock.

Thanks for this video! Have scheduled a birthday trip for me in late Sept. Plan to fly to LAX, stay the night at the LAX Marriott; next morning take the Amtrak Coast Starlight up the coast to Seattle in a roomette, stay a couple of nights there and then fly back to Arkansas. Am trying to do this for almost as free as possible (Amtrak, Marriott, United, AA points). Was honestly most worried about how to get from the LAX Marriott to Union Station early enough the next day to not miss the train departure. Feeling much more confident now about using the Flyaway Bus for transport.

I’ve lived in L.A all my life and Metro has made major improvements in the past 15 years. The trains are faster(contrary to your statement)than others I’ve been on and the fares are reasonable. From Union Station, you can go anywhere in the Pacific Northwest or even across country.

Hi Jeff, thanks a lot for sharing this video, I found it really helpful! This will be my first time in L.A. but I'm actually heading to Palm Springs. I've heard Union Station is a big place and some people have a hard time finding the ticket office. Do you think is better to get the ticket online or to get it from the station ticket office? I'm trying to save some time because I have to be at 7pm in Palm Springs and time is kind of an issue here as my flight arrives at 12 pm to LAX. Thanks again and keep it up!

edith perez hello! Glad you found it interesting! Unfortunately I don’t believe there is any direct route. As the public transit system gets built out hopefully it’ll get easier to go from west LA to East LA but it seems your best bet would be the flyaway bus (seen in this video) to Union Station and taking Amtrak to Van Nuys Train Station and then taking a bus into Pacoima.
