Great update Julian. This looks very complicated and must have taken you hours to workout. Wonderful news that you are coming to the UK on tour. You will love the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the Museum. I have been to GETS a couple of times and am unsure whether I’ll go this year. The chance to meet you might just sway me. Thanks for sharing. Roy.

Hi Julian, I just hope that Paul can take all that in lol. I am excited for you, for your first visit to U.K. I will guarantee that once you experience the sound of a steam locomotive climbing the grades of the NYMR it will never leave you!

Another comprehensive update on Paul's proposed new layout Julian. Thank you for showing us. You must have spent quite a number of hours on it now. That is exciting news that you are planning on coming to the UK. I am sure that you will be most welcomed here. What day was you going to go to GETS by the way. I wasn't going to go, but I may change my plans now, as it would be nice to meet you in person 🙂 Best wishes. Mark.

When planning inclines, remember to make space for vertical curves to lead in and out of the inclined sections.

Sounds an exciting trip over to Britain. GETS is a great show but glad to hear you plan to go to other places than Milton Keynes! My brother and I are planning to visit GETS on the Sunday morning and may get to meet a KZitem celebrity!

Very comprehensive planning video Julian and very impressive use of the CAD system. I am jealous of your ability. Brilliant to hear you are coming to the UK, I am in the North of England in Yorkshire actually so if you are going to publish an itinerary I would love to meet up with you at either York or Pickering assuming those places are included in your schedule ? Can't wait to see Paul building his baseboard. Cheers Arthur.

Hi Julian a lot of thinking outside the box, the lift out sections will have a hell of lot of lines to join up ,but as you said only need to lift if there's a disaster or malfunction ,keep up the good work

Another great video with plenty of detail on the plans for Paul's new layout. It will be my first visit to the Great Electric Train Show this year, hope we might bump into each other. Looking forward to seeing the making tracks layouts all fitted together. Keep up the great work. Allan

Interesting update, but great to hear your news at the end! Hope you thoroughly enjoy your trip to the UK, GETS/NRM/NYMR sounds like a good itinerary, if you get chance I'd recommend 'Locomotion' at Shildon too, up the road from the National Rail Museum, their amazing exhibits are also part of the national collection as Locomotion is a sister museum to NRM. Hope you get chance to see and photograph plenty of Northern English prototypes to inspire updates to the layout 😊 Maybe get up into the moors if you can, Settle and Carlisle line perhaps - none of the drama of NZ scenery, but there should be plenty of modelling inspiration.❤ Anyway, have fun!

If you get the chance I think you'll love visiting Beamish Living Museum in the North East of England. Great place if you love history, trains and trams!

A great planning insight for a complex layout which will help my own plans. Great news about your trip to the UK and it will be good to meet you at GETS. When will you be there? Are you based on any stand to make you easy to find? GETS is busy! I wonder if the You tuber of the year is on the card 😉

Strikes me that you could form the incline in a similar way that Charlie (Chadwick) did the helices, with metal rods and nuts that can be finely adjusted to get the smoothest grade. You can saw off the rods at the uppermost point.

Quite a project - certainly don't envy you having to work all that out in three dimensions! Never been to GETS, so maybe this would be the ideal opportunity.

Hi Julian. Typical, isn't it? I have been attending GETS for the last few years but this year I shall be in China, so will miss the opportunity to meet up with you. Well, ce la vie!

Julian, I don't think you mentioned what the height of the lowest level was? If it were to be at bar level, rather than the more conventional table/kitchen worktop level, you would have a layout that could be operated from a bar stool (skipper's chair?) and the upper level could be controlled at standing level? I know none of us are getting any younger, and perhaps this might be a better solution to post-construction maintainance as raising what will be quite susbstantial 'lift-out' sections (once landscaped) may become more of an issue? It might also open up better photo angels on tne new Sandling layout. Paul always seems very keen on his understaging storage, so this might add some extra space on that side too? Just a thought? Hope you have a great trip over here. Don't forget your warm and wet-weather gear, it's been a lousy year weather-wise so far over in our neck of the woods.

Looks a very complicated build. Reaching to the far back might be a bitof a stretch?
