Unbelievable, Lea Salonga broke all Broadway rules, defied all Actors' Equity barriers and came out undeniably one of Broadway's very few Royalty Icon of all time!

@Gary DeBlasio You're missing the whole point of non-traditional casting. It seems like you're one butthurt lil snowflake because theatre has been demanding more diversity recently. Normally, I would provide reasoning in instances like this but why bother changing the mind of an old white male who has been getting it his way for all of his life?

She must have been turned down due to her skin color in My Fair Lady but she proved to everyone that she's more than that. She ended up playing a role of a white character. I think that white character of a mother she played then was Fantine. Correct me if I'm wrong. She's gorgeously amazing. The voice is sublime.....
@jkentan

She referred to the character of mother from ragtime (which she sang back to before) though she also played Fantine for the 25th anniv of les mis

@@alexiagabriel1724 She played an Asian role in Allegiance. The "mother" role was traditionally white and literally the role of Mother in Ragtime. She also played Fantine and Eponine in different revivals and concert casts of Les Mis.

For My Fair Lady, i don't think, she was turned down because her skin color (If you're referring to the literal sense) because i saw Lea and she has a white complexion but it was because of someone so racist. Eponine and Fantine are French i think. Her white character was in Rag time.

I used to be a member of a theater group in college although I couldn't sing well. As part of our immersion for a play, our team travelled to a remote island in thr Philippines. The primary livelihood of the people on the island was fishing and the fishermen had remarkably long limbs. We were welcomed by a family whose head of the family was half paralythic. We couldn't offer them anything monetary so instead 2 of our members sang 2 songs which made all of us including the host family cry. I wish i had a gift of voice too.

I COULD HAVE DANCE ALL NIGHT: Bed, bed! I couldn't go to bed My head's too light to try to set it down Sleep, sleep! I couldn't sleep tonight Not for all the jewels in the crown I could have danced all night I could have danced all night And still have begged for more I could have spread my wings And done a thousand things I've never done before I'll never know ahat made it so exciting Why all at once my heart took flight I only know when he began to dance with me I could have danced, danced, danced all night I could have danced all night (You're tired out, you must be dead) I could have danced all night (Your face is drawn, your eyes are red) And still have begged for more (Now say goodnight, turn out the light) (Please, it's really time for you to be in bed) I could have spread my wings (Do come along, do as you're told) And done a thousand things (Or Mrs. Pierce is apt to stir) I've never done before (You're up too late, please, it sure is late) (Miss, you'll catch a cold) I'll never know what made it so exciting Why all at once my heart took flight I only know when he (Put down your book, the work'll keep) Began to dance with me (Now settle down and go to sleep) I could have danced, danced, danced all night I could have danced all night I could have danced all night And still have begged for more I could have spread my wings And done a thousand things I've never done before I'll never know what made it so exciting Why all at once my heart took flight I only know when he began to dance with me I could have danced, danced, danced all night BACK TO BEFORE: There was a time our happiness seemed neverending, I was so sure that where we were headed was right. Life was a road so certain and straight and unbending, Our little road with never a crossroad in sight. Back in the days when we spoke in civilised voices. Women in white and sturdy young men at the oar. Back in the days when I let you make all my choices. We can never go back to before. There was a time my feet were so solidly planted. You'd sail away while I turned my back to the sea. I was content, a princess asleep and enchanted. If I had dreams then I let you dream them for me. Back in the days when everything seemed so much clearer. Women in white who knew what their lives held in store. Where are they now? Those women who stared from the mirror? We can never go back to before. There are people out there, unafraid of revealing, That they might have a feeling, Or they might have been wrong. There are people out there, unafraid to feel sorrow, Unafraid of tomorrow. Unafraid to be weak. Unafraid to be strong. There was a time when you were the person in motion. I was your wife, it never occured to want more. You were my sky, my moon, my stars and my ocean. We can never go back to before. We can never go back to before.

Whithe, black, red, blue or purple, I don't care, at that time in London there was people from all over the world. Lea's voice is ready for the part. With a little practice she can hide her American accent - the point with many of the songs is, that there are no accent at all, only clear proper Enligsh pronunciation.
