Please do more of these! Even by studying portions of a script from a movie you get to learn at a microscopic level all of these rules in detail and even if this clip doesn't cover all the words in the English language, you subconsciously start using these rules when you speak and practice. Thank you!

Hello Teacher! I want to start a job in audiobook/voice over/voice talent niche I'm inclined to picking up American Accent What would you suggest me to take start from or if that's too complicated what could be the framework or roadmap I should follow to get better at reading and/or what things I should focus on I think from reading point of view, I should be well aware of the punctuation, what different expressions mean etcetera also perhaps my english vocabulary should be healthy so I can understand better and give appropriate sounds and expressions as I read along but I have to first work on my american accent what would you recommend? plus what about grammar these adjectives, adverbs, etcetra and some of the terms you used like flap t, glottal t, glottal stop, diphthongs, consonants, vowels, and different sorts of reductions and linkings would these be needed as in conversation, whilst reading? I think yes pls write back what you think of it we could talk on zoom, whatsapp also Thanks for occupying a nice space that can help others More Power To You God bless

Hi Muhammad - That's a very exciting career! And there are many things you can do to help with your American accent, as well as grammar, adjectives, language skills, intonation, conversational English, etc. I offer two things that might be helpful: 1) If you want something very affordable, you can join my weekly English class called Julie's Conversation Club (courses.sandiegovoiceandaccent.com/courses/julies-conversation-club). We meet every week, and I give a brief lesson on the American accent and then you can practice your English with me. Or 2) I also offer a fully customized, private speech training course. This is the best option if you want one-on-one coaching and individualized support. Let me know if you are interested in starting private classes, and I can send you more information about it. :)

I feel like she is dropped the "th" and "h" sound in (make this park happen)? Thanks in advance 😊

Thanks for the question! She is speaking very quickly in this clip, so it is a little difficult to hear each sound she says. But I think she pronounces both of the sounds you mentioned - but they are both said quickly and slightly reduced. For the TH in "this" - The TH is there, but it's very quick and reduced, so her tongue tip is probably not fully out past her teeth when she says it (sometimes it is OK to reduce the voiced TH sound, like in "this", depending on the sentence). To be sure that she does say the TH, you can say "make-is, make-is", which is what it would sound like if she had dropped the TH completely. I don't think she says "make-is" - there is a quick sound between "make" and "is", so she is pronouncing a quick TH in "this". And for the H in "happen" - It's there, but she reduces it a little bit as she links the K in "park" to the H in "happen". She doesn't make a full "hhhhh" sound with a full release of air. The H is sort of pronounced as she releases her tongue for the K, so "park happen" becomes one word, "parkhappen". But if you listen to it again, there is a quick "H" sound in there. I hope this helps!
