There are chapter markers to indicate when they happen, an more accurate timestamps as a response to this comment. Secret Sleepover Society is every Sunday & Wednesday at 9 pm ET www.twitch.tv/secretsleepoversociety
Seriously, thank you for the warning about the buzzing, I have tinnitus and some hearing damage so certain sounds can really mess with my head. I feel like it's not super common that folks put timestamps for those kinds of audio triggers like weird buzzes or the awful ringing they put in *every* game or movie when there's an explosion, so it's very appreciated. I like how the game made it so that you weren't the first person who tried to ascend further up the tower. The Preacher tried, but died after breaking his lantern and falling into a hole. There was a Bard (or Bards) who tried, but likely failed and was considered the "Idiot Bard". And there was an Alchemist who found the way to make the key to ascend, but he transformed into a monster in the process. All these people who failed were the reason the player was able to ascend to the top.

The Bard puzzle you were confused by (and all the puzzles in exile) is based on your changes to the tower. The original script had the idiot bard find the monster beyond the path and being scared. The revised script has them find their lost brother, the alchemist (they used to belong to the same people before the chism), since the real bards and scientist reconciled after you translated for them. Same for the devotees/impures playing music for the warriors and the alchemists curing the dying plants. Your good deeds sabotage Exile's simulation. Also the most important concepts (God, Duty, Beauty, Transformation and Exile) actually stem from the beacon that called the people (as seen in the devotee's and warrior's murals), each folk seeing another meaning in it (also the reason why god is depicted atop the tower as just the bright rune). Great worldbuilding here, though it's funny how they changed the giant symbol of unity turned into "Exile".

A nice touch is that the connection symbolized was what each of the people held most important, or were seeking: God for the Devotees, Duty for the Warriors, Beauty for the Bards, Transmutation for the Alchemists, and Exile for the Anchorites.

1:40:42 the rest of the play is not a red herring. The structure of this series of puzzles is for you to deduce the "corrupted" writing in each area. For this area, you watch the play, then you read the script, and there is a corrupted line in the script. The corrupted line is "[??][??] bard found". The goal is to solve what that line of the script is saying. In other lines of the script, you see that the main character is referred to as "idiot bard." For example, "path idiot bard found" is the last line. So that solves one of the blanks, as the main character is not just bard, it is idiot bard. "[??] IDIOT bard found" And the thing that he finds in that scene is the scientist / brother, which fills the last blank. "Brother, idiot bard found" I think that when you opened it, and saw north/west, you thought that it was the script from the first play, but it wasn't. It was the script from the new play. Chat also led you astray by asking you what was different in this play vs the second play. This puzzle was fully self contained between THIS play and THIS script, and deducing the corrupted lines.

Jacob's way of "solving" the ring puzzles is so frustrating to watch XD (the logical approach would have been to start with the known(s) on the unmovable inner circle, then find any symbols on outer rings that match those and move those rings to match, which gives you the final position of those rings, after which you can find other matches from those now-fixed rings to the still-unknown rings, iterating until they're all solved)

i think it stems from the worldbuilding of this area, like the people there aren't interested in interacting with you nor each other, and the cultural identity of the area has essentially been entirely replaced with exile, so just making the language-learning into literal games the main character plays on terminals that instantly awards you upon winning fits the theme of this area imo. i still agree with you though! i felt the same way when i played the game, would've preferred a similar learning curve to the other areas for sure
@shibainu2528
10 ай бұрын
Personally, I didn't really mind it since it shook things up a bit from every other zone. Usually by finding a depiction of the symbol, or by seeing patterns / context clues. With the golden terminals, it put several languages together and had you figure out which ones were the equivalents of each other, which come to think of it, fit with what the major part of that area was (At least for the true ending) As in, translation between languages. But then again, this is the same guy who got stuck on not figuring out the Alchemists language because they missed the giant poster in the library, and the one who didn't see the lantern next to Laboratory 3's entrance. So what do I know.
@aliengeo

I feel like it would have been more satisfying for the player if they'd leaned into polyglot texts (which would test knowledge more thoroughly) instead of just matching up "all these words mean go! all these words mean person!" It would still be checked-out because it wouldn't involve human interaction, but like, we all literally saw someone solve the Anchorite puzzle who could not explain how he solved it. That's poor puzzle design.

The fact that this game is so good with its internal language system that I could play AND get the good ending in a language I literally could not understand is a testement to how great this game actually is. A game based around language that you could play even if you were illiterate.
@M.Datura

Did you write what you thought words meant or did you forgo that completely? Because I think for someone who is unable to do that, note to themselves what they think the words mean, it would be a lot harder on the first playthrough. Not impossible, but the game does depend on the capacity to understand written word to be sure you get what a thing means, though to be fair that difficulty would probably be associated a lot with understanding the illustrations. And I'd say that completing this game as illiterate would essentially be teaching yourself how to read, just sets of fictional languages. I do hope it inspires some future games for actually teaching people how to speak or read/write languages they don't know though. It feels like it might. Oh and kudos for completing it like that. Sounds complicated.

almost everyone comments on the ending being each language's glyph for god, but that's just not correct. Only the devotee language even has a word for god. The glyphs in order are god (devotee) duty (warrior) beauty (bard) transformation (alchemist) exile (anchorite) they're each culture's most important concept.

Yeah, I thought it was essentially what they praise - what they reach for, search for - their ideal sort of, or what they consider exhalted. I can understand prescribing that divinity, but by most people's definiton of "god" I don't think it applies. I personally liked it because it was different for each - the implication to me being that they all really like sides of the same thing, or that it is all part of the same whole, the bards are endlessly devoted to their search for and appreication of beauty, the devotees treat their worship nearly as a duty, to the warriors their duty and fulfilling that duty is it seems what they consider most beautiful, and the alchemists it seems, seeing some of those connections and revering it. The anchorites relationship to exile seemed dependant on exile providing them with what they appreciated most - beauty, enjoyment, exhaltation. Sorry if I'm wording myself bleh. My brain fried halfway through. I do agree though that it seems strange by most modern definitions of the word "god" that so many seem to associate all the glyphs with it.

I think there is a real, bad ending if you try to go up before you finish conversations. The gatekeeper at the top level will warn you against going up and if you do game will end and take you back to main menu where you can continue at last check point. Afterwards, you can complete huh ending and get zapped as usual and finish with the real ending. I'm guessing you need to dobad ending and to visit all the tower has changed points to get awards for completing all tasks.

That’s not really a bad ending. It’s just pushing you to actually reach the ending of the game. This is a pretty linear story.

Why the hell are you using the word “Jehovah” to refer to anything in this game?

@@KaiLucasZachary It's a quote from an Indiana Jones movie. The original line is about language and how it changes over time, and I applied it to this game about translation in a light-hearted reference.

I dont keep up with all yalls content. but was binging this series because i wanted your version of playing this game It took me till this episode to realize the wedding yall kept discussing was your own. You were so nonchalant about it, almost somber, i assumed you just had a family member getting married.

In my view, that’s how weddings should be. I don’t get the giant fuss over it having to the most important event of any person’s lifetime.

I doubt they'll read this but Jacob should get a Huion Kamvas 22 plus! It's essentially an upgraded version of the cintiq they all have for way less. Or if he wants something that's the same price but better he should get the Kamvas Pro 24 4k. I recently had go replace my tablet so I've done a lot of research

A fantastic game - thank you very much for playing all the way through! I unfortunately was trying to like the video on the bus, and the bus jerked and my finger brushed the thumbs down, and I immediately thumbs-upped but I fear the first one might count somehow? So I apologize, it was an accident, I thumbs-up you always! 👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️

Haha, the ending. "It became all the symbols for God!" "We all believe in a God, I think!" Sure, or faith is just one raison d'etre among others like duty and art. But I love your Christian take. xD

I've heard people say they don't like how the game takes over near the end and translates for you, and while I sort of agree, I think narratively it shows how the Anchorite language is your character's native language in a way. The player is a robot created by the Anchorites to translate the languages of the towerand unite everyone. Why wouldn't the language of its creators be the easiest to learn/remember?
