So, to recap the peoples we've encountered thus far; A peaceful people came to the tower and made their home in the gardens. But they were divided, with some wanting to go further in search of enlightenment, and others content with staying in the peaceful garden to practice arts. The ones that went further found their path blocked by a door created by "fairies", and sought to create a material capable of opening the door, thus starting their scientific endeavours. Then, the warriors came on a ship, encountering the "chosen ones" who didn't want them to come into their gardens and disturb the peace, so they built a fortress to stay close and protect the chosen ones from "impure" invaders. Then, the devotees came in search of their god, but they were stopped by the warriors, and confined to the bottom of the tower.

@MartyMango0

If I'm correct, their language is inspired by actual alchemical notation & their numbers are inspired by Cisterician numerals, a 13th century number system invented by monks but used by early astronomers & then in the 18th century onward by occultists! Personally, I like the writing system used by the bards best, but then I'm the sort of nerd who took Sanskrit as their college language credit just because & the bard's language looks like upside-down Devanagari, though it functions quite differently

The Bard's script? Horrible, can't possibly make out what word tgey mean half the time because everything looks like five other things all at once. I think that the monster was in (the hole in) Lab 3 where you looked down and saw nothing. I'm only guessing, and not 100% sure, because I also translated the warrior/scientist conversation before ever entering Lab 3.

Idk if someone in the stream chat said but Julia is right that there is a language where the numbers work like in the science language! Hebrew works like that. Like 13 is שלוש עשרה (shlosh es-ray) shlosh being 3 and es-ray being 10. Granted I can only count to 20 so I'm not sure if the pattern goes past 20
@Quintinohthree
11 ай бұрын
Even English works like that essentially, with the slight complication that the units and the teens are swapped, but it's a base-ten number system nonetheless. We're not talking number words here, we're talking numerical notation. We all know the Indo-Arabic numerals we all use, 1234567890, and its positional notation, and many will know Roman numerals, I II III IV et cetera, but these numerals with nine different types of marks plus an empty along a vertical line in four quadrants each representing a power of ten is really similar to the system of Cistercian numerals. Look it up, it's fascinating.
@azul4916
11 ай бұрын
Japanese does it too (at least in writing, I know numbers have different pronunciations to abreviate). For example to say 72 you can say 七十二 (7 10s, 2) or simply 七二 (7,2) (tho it mostly is used like that for big numbers so you don't have to add the millions, thousands or hundreds after every number). I'm not fluent tho so maybe irl they don't use this system a lot and just go with the abbreviated names.
@ianallenbird
11 ай бұрын
She may be referring specifically to Cistercian Numerals, which use a single symbol to represent between 1 and 9999 using smaller symbols in quadrants, same as the alchemists here.
